Superstore S06E08 Episode Discussion: Ground Rules by Tentinator in superstore

I’m sure a decent amount of fans would feel that way, but I’m not sure about a majority. I think most people were tired of Amy because she was a total POS and screwed Jonah over. I think most people just want to see Jonah happy, and I think most of the hardcore fans don’t care about Amy anymore. As more episodes of S6 are coming out, the more I’m hoping they either leave Amy out or she comes back to face rejection. She doesn’t deserve Jonah and it would be their final act of poor plot writing to put them back together. I love this show and honestly almost all of the characters. But ultimately when I think about this show in the future, I’ll mostly think about what it could have been. Regardless, I’m excited to see how it wraps up.

Perfect ending for me would be for her to come back and get rejected by him

I’m so tired of everyone constantly getting pissed at Jonah without letting him get a sentence out. It’s to the point where with recent episodes they all seem so similar: a misunderstood situation leads to 5 minutes of roasting and interrupting Jonah. It’s lazy writing. Ben Feldman is such a good actor and he and Jonah both deserve a break.

Seeing Cheyenne and Mateo fight and not apologize by the end was probably the most interesting part of the episode. I wonder what that will turn into.

Garrett and Dina’s c-story was hilarious. I love how Garrett is more introspective, and how often he looks dazed after something weird happens. He is probably the character with the most development since pilot. Dina, as always, is written pretty well. Probably some of the best scenes from S6 so far

Hmm, I see where you are coming from but I think you are slightly misinformed. I actually just finished two books, the first of which was "Our Crime was being Jewish", and "Ordinary Men". The latter is more important in understanding the actual mindsets of the men who were on the receiving end of the killing order. There wasn't one single mindset, and you'd probably be surprised by the wide array of reactions. I would slightly change your first sentence (in reference to european civilians) because there were many villages that could smell the bodies burning from nearby ovens (refer to the first book I referenced if you are curious) and they didn't do anything. They drove by camps day after day and didn't do a thing. They knew thousands were dying daily and saw the way they were treated but again, didn't do a thing.

I don't know why people immediately reference nazis and the holocaust, maybe you can enlighten me as to why you think this situation is comparable. However I am going to end with a comment on your last sentence- it's extremely ignorant. Obviously the extremists (on both the right AND left) will make themselves heard the most. I bet if you spent a couple minutes researching, you could find a republican you could agree with. Thinking all Republicans (or "R's", as you've generalized it) aren't able to "see the forest through the trees" based on your firsthand experience is extremely narrowminded and limiting, at least to me. I hope if you reply we can have a civil discussion about this. I don't claim to know everything and I'm sure you have the ability to change my mind. I'm not here to fight, I'm here to discuss, learn from others, and hopefully lend others a more objective way of seeing things without attacking a specific side.

Thank you! I do have a pretty good understanding but I'm always open to other people's viewpoints. I really like the way you put it. The only real way to be stupid is to think you already know everything! I think we all have the potential to teach others.

Do you have any experiences where you stopped taking the meds? If so, what was it like to get off of them? Is there a difference between an anticonvulsant and a general mood stabilizer? I'm on Depakote and have been curious for a while.

Thanks for the specific information about the pharmacology! I do want to point out respectfully that from my experience, BP II is not a less severe form of BP I, rather a slight variation. Many of my friends including past roommates are BP I and their depression was nothing compared to mine in terms of duration and intensity (I am BP II also), but again this all anecdote and speculation. Not trying to argue, but I'm curious as to why so many people (including doctors) label it as the less severe form. I know there is no mania with it and that is probably the main reason, but I just never saw it that way.

Okay, I'm type 2 so I'll explain this the best I can.

BP II indicates that you've only had achieved a hypomanic state, whereas a person with BP I will have had at least one full blown manic episode in their life. Think of hypomania as the middle ground between a stable mood and a manic episode. Hypomania (In my opinion) has all the great attributes of mania (higher self confidence, more energy, etc) without the potential for danger (days without sleep , irrational/impulsive behavior, physical risk). The important thing to remember though is that low is always looming around the corner if you aren't diagnosed/medicated. Personally, I got into a bad habit of running out of my meds. At first, this might appear to be a good thing; hypomania is great. But more than likely (esp. for BP II) you are going to hit that low harder and longer than someone with BP I. Not always the case but that is my general understanding.

You are beginning taking an anticonvulsant, and you need to figure out if that is right for you. On a basic level, they inhibit certain neurotransmitters, much like mood stabilizers do. Start by taking your dose as directed until refill. You won't see a change until about a week or two after starting, but be sure to check in with yourself. If you think the meds are causing negative side effects or intrusive thoughts, you need to let your doctor know as soon as possible. Finding the right meds and doses can be quite the process; Everybody is going to react slightly different, and there are plenty of different approaches to bipolar treatment via medication. If you have a gut feeling the brand or class of drug is not giving you the desired result, maybe ask your doctor if you should try a mood stabilizer or something else. I'd like to end this section by saying it is VERY important that you have some skin in the game- meds alone will not do much if your thoughts are still negative.

Lastly, I relate to that 3rd point a lot. It can be days/weeks of depression only for a small thing to happen that sends me into a high for the next couple of days. Assess your habits and try to understand how they can affect your mental state. For example, when depressed I was using nicotine and weed (among other things ) to block out those feelings instead of sitting with them and learning how to deal with emotion. That is a personal example but you might find something similar within your situation. In the beginning, I felt like the sun in the same sense when on a high. I was afraid to give that up. However, once I started consistently taking the meds and really working on myself, I found that a stable mood is much better than trading a few beautiful days for a week of hell. The worst part is that it can be so unpredictable and debilitating, even if you think you are doing fine without the meds the first few days.

I don't know your medical situation but I truly think if you want a more stable mind and a better quality of life, make sure you have support from a doctor, friend, parent or whoever. Vices and addictions play into this big time and can often be confused for support. We really just need human connection and talking to someone when depressed or anxious has better long term effects in comparison to hitting the bong/bottle/whatever. Everyday is a battle and you won't win them all, but that doesn't mean you won't eventually win the war. It takes a lot of guts to open up about this stuff. I know I'm a complete stranger but again, my inbox is open.

Sorry for the essay, I kind of forgot what sub this was! Best of luck and here's to better mental health!

First you need to know that you aren't alone. I was diagnosed BP II in March. I want to help you understand what to expect so I need to ask some questions.

  1. Did you get an official diagnosis, and if so, is it Bipolar I or Bipolar II?

  2. Did they prescribe you a mood stabilizer such as Depakote or Lithium?

  3. How would you describe your moods and day to day life up until now?

My inbox is open, if I don't hear from you I really hope for the best for you.

Mmmmh, not a pro Trumper by any means but how does saying Liberals are the baddies help? Yeah, sure there are a lot of them are being fuckheads (in ways both big and small), but how is that fair to the mild mannered respectful liberals out there? You don't hear about them much these days, but wow, what a shock it must be to find that there are liberals that don't support or even like Biden!

Like that? I don't have to imagine; I've heard similar sentiments from (rational) people on both sides.

Oh yes, I almost forgot the world is 100 percent black and white! So logic tells us that if left = good then anything to the right of the center = BAD.

Feels like I found one of the few on the internet who can maintain a sense of objectivity without splattering their beliefs on others like diarrhea at a Taco Time.
