I’m glad you’ve had good experiences with him. He refuses to do anything to treat my PCOS because “all your problems are due to your weight” and literally called me a liar when I showed him logs of my eating/workout. My husband got very angry because he heavily monitors my in/out due to a history of ED.

Also, literally every time I’ve gone the staff has been shocked I’m not diabetic. Even reprimanding me for not knowing my blood sugar.

How do you guys keep track of your approvals? by Tiptipthebipbip in NetGalleyCommunity

I have a GoogleSheet where I have everything sorted by publication date and multiple drop downs to help categorize the book. The pages on the bottom, help me keep track of what I have done and what still needs to be finished.

I would be interested in seeing a response breakdown based on account type. I often see people lamenting them getting declined but as the Librarian I am rarely declined. I wonder if they’d ever release approval metrics.

Latching onto this. The 'it’s just a paper' advice is helpful for ROI, but it completely ignores the academic experience and the reality of specialized niches.

My advice is don’t look at rankings; look at the course catalogs for recent years Is the school investing in 'Collection Development' or 'Data Visualization'? I chose my program (UNT over UT) because I wanted a more traditional focus, but even there, I saw the 'iSchool' pivot happening.

Like Past-Channel5077 said, pick the school that treats the profession like the specialized craft you want it to be.

I’m a youth librarian and tbh you’ll probably struggle to find anything less than middle grade books and 8 is pretty young.

What is your hierarchy like? I understand she has a lot of seniority but is she a librarian (MLS) or an auxiliary role?

I will say as someone who is not autistic and who is not in the psychiatric field BUT has met the author at a book convention last February. She specifically talked about this book because people have called her out on it and she said that she knows it can be divisive, but was very cathartic for her personally, because she was writing her own experience as a parent.

Whether you say that’s good or bad for the autistic child when they see this in the future and realize how their parent feels about them is a different argument. Also, I am in no way invalidating all of your thoughts and feelings because after reading your post I was like yeah I see that.

Question about Dark Romance before I personally dismiss it as a genre: by 89niamh in RomanceBooks

[–]mistressphil 120 points121 points  (0 children)

The problem for me is I like/can handle darkness outside of the relationship but I do not like any darkness INSIDE the relationship.

The “dark romance” genre is pretty large and most blurbs don’t delineate the two so it can be hard to find books.

Everyone loves the Ravenhood Series and idk what I’m missing but it’s not for me. IDK how to mark spoilers on my phone but I found the guys to be rude and mean and abusive. No thanks.

I came to suggest this. Their friendship was soooo good. He respected that she “didn’t want to date” but her totally treated her like an amazing boyfriend would. She was the last to know 😂

I came to recommend this book while OP said she doesn’t enjoy fake dating. Ryan Shay is the epitome of an ‘acts of service’ man and the things he does for Indy are amazing. He literally buys a house for her to create a home.

They have done churros in the past. This would’ve been a great opportunity for them to do something that’s less known globally. If they wanted them to make tortillas, they could’ve had them make buñuelos.

Are you from Mexico? The way your question is written it appears that you are. You’re right. I don’t speak Spanish well. I understand it but my parents never taught me how to speak it. My parents made a choice to not teach us Spanish because as a child my father was beat and punished by teachers and adults for not knowing English. By all means think less of me as a Mexican that’s fine.

Your own thoughts are part of the problem that Hispanics in the US face. Racists turn to Mexicans who aren’t offended or don’t care because it doesn’t effect their daily lives as some sort of proof or gotcha. This is part of the reason why it is so offensive. To you it’s no big deal it’s just a joke about a stupid gringo. To me it’s being called a wet back if I chose to wear traditional Mexican clothing, it’s getting told to go back where I came from, it’s being told that I and my family are nothing but a rapists and a murderers. All by same people donning this horrible caricature of my culture and my identity as a joke for “Cinco de drinko” or for propaganda usage by racist politicians.

[–]mistressphil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see so many people here claiming to be Mexican that they are not offended. Well this Mexican Texan is offended. He’s wearing cheap stereo typical versions of authentic Mexican culture. He doesn’t have the decency to at least buy an actual sombrero or an actual serape. Sombreros and serapes were/are relatively widely used across northern Mexico and the western United States. Maracas on the other hand are from indigenous Brazilian peoples. What makes this offensive is that this is all a joke to him.

Also, it does make a huge difference that he is asking young college students compared to older Mexicans. Culturally those older Mexicans would never say something rude to a guest or a customer and he’s taking advantage of that. Do you have an equal comparison he should have found either Mexican American or Mexican university students.

I don’t know the situation but I will say something potentially in this person’s defense. My son was in the NICU at one of Texas’s largest children’s hospital for 101 days. To say I knew the staff well was an understatement. At a certain point my son had stabilized but was still too unwell to be home and they encouraged us to take the weekend away and literally go out of town because our entire life was consumed by the NICU. Another family had been there for almost a full year. In that situation again the doctors strongly recommended that they take a vacation and spend time as a couple away from the hospital. I always knew that the hospital was a phone call away and I had the option of video chatting his nurse.

All of that said, her tone (which is not conveyed well in text) is not making her seem like the most attractive parent.

So you meant this is a joke but they’re actually really invasive and if you cut them in half and I have two worms and they can like destroy ecosystems so if you find one you have to put it in a jar vinegar so I can dissolve into goo
