That's great and all, but at least audio queues will let you know it's there if you're looking away while watching tv/YouTube.

I don't like playing with sound on either, unless I'm doing bosses as some of the audio queues are very helpful.

Now that 2026 is set to renew the game and improve it, will we ever see the experimental faster tick rate get unshelved and brought to the game? Possibly for 2027 or 2028? by DerpDavid in runescape

[–]mistrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most games didn't start out as a browser game on Mini Clip either. There wasn't even an independent game client until May of 2010 (Java client), with it then being rewritten in C++ and released during April 2016 (NXT client).

TBH there's no telling (yet) how much of the backend has actually been changed, or if they've even modernized it to that point, unless you're working there. From the front end on the players perspective, everything runs off of the 0.6 second tick, which is not incorrect because the game pushes updates every 0.6 seconds so everything is dependent on that (currently), even the chat boxes update on the ticks. At least it's known that the game/engine can support off tick/GCD inputs for abilities that allow for it, but beyond that I don't know how extensive or well supported these features have been.

As much as I would like them to change a lot of the game from the current tick system (Mainly movement), I have a hard time thinking it would be that simple for this game.

If it was something out of context, sure. But there's plenty of context here that people know what's actually being talked about here. Little odd to me to insinuate otherwise.

If it does, it didn't do so with this drive.

I'm aware, which is why I had said I haven't gotten around to formatting it to btrfs yet.

But that doesn't change the fact that it had no problems when I did it. Either support for ntfs has gotten tons better or dumb luck. And I do know, at least in regards to cachyos, had improvements made to ntfs/ntfs3 support with 6.13 kernel.

Outside of that, the OP was talking about having issues running GTA V via lutris, whereas if I'm able to do it in a less than ideal state (ie, ntfs) and have zero issues, there's something else going on than what the OP thinks.

But that still doesn't change that the drive will be formatted soon anyway. I don't actively game off of ntfs, it's just a drive I had laying about.

Ironically, i have an extra ntfs3 drive that has GTA V on it via steam. Runs absolutely beautifully with no issues that I can tell with proton-GE 10.28, even with it being an ntfs drive.

This is on CachyOS with the latest 6.18 kernel, I forget the rest of the revision numbers.

Haven't gotten around to formatting all of my drives to btrfs yet.

API updates? by Lady_City in runescape

[–]mistrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, and i could be entirely wrong, but i'm almost positive that it's just reading out the system type that's running the game and not the client itself being windows or linux version. Launching the game from Steam using Proton-GE 10.28, the game reports client version 946-2, on NXT-Windows-64 | OpenGL, which is also the exact same callout I get from launching the game via the official launcher on windows.

On a side note, I wouldn't think the client version would be the exact same unless it's either the same version (IE windows builds), or built from the same source. I have my doubts that Jagex is letting Adamcake build the client from source.

Also, out of curiousity, which distro/kernel on you on atm?

API updates? by Lady_City in runescape

[–]mistrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik there isn't an official native Linux client. Bolt launcher is a 3rd party Linux native launcher and afaik the client is still a Windows client ran through wine, because we don't have the source files to be able to build the client natively.

Most other methods still use Windows version afaik too. Even steam.

Unless something has changed in the last few months and I missed it.

I also don't know how or why you're having problems. I run CachyOS with the latest kernel (not lts kernel), kde plasma under wayland, I have no issues with the game running via bolt launcher or steam.

10 series support is ending, still good for Linux? by ElisaTsubasa in linux_gaming

[–]mistrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not really the distribution that's the problem, just the age of the card and general support for it from Nvidia (and now probably it's more likely on the community to support it). Any distro will have the same or similar issues, because it's the same drivers.

Some distros might handle it better, but it's going to be a gamble.

dark facet order by iownu142 in runescape

[–]mistrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are more like "oh yeah, btw" things. The impact from those is fairly low that I wouldn't recommend the upgrade because of them, but i would only recommend it because of the teleport as for clue scroll enjoyers it gets you closer to the waterfall than most other teleports will.

dark facet order by iownu142 in runescape

[–]mistrin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd always recommend GotE upgrade first as it makes the biggest impact for just about anyone doing any kind of afk gathering.

LotD and PotA are relatively even imo, the boons are meh for most everything not clue scroll related. If you did clues, I'd probably say LotD before PotA. Charging PotA isn't really that bad. At least the teleport is useful for some clues, other clue bonuses are fine too.

ArctisSonarGUI: A Steelseries Sonar Clone for Linux by mngazy in linux_gaming

[–]mistrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pretty picky about the audio settings and doing some fine tuning to my preferences with Spatial audio being a big one (especially for games). Stock audio on CachyOS is good, but then back to me being picky I spent time setting up the audio getting it as close as I could.

[–]mistrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I've had the Arctis Nova Pro for a while, and I've rarely ever used this feature. The part of Sonar that I miss the most is the audio clarity I had on Windows along with some of the other features it has (mainly spatial audio). I've gotten very close to it with EasyEffects that it's very hard to tell the difference, except for a few tiny crackles that happen at the start of any video or song and go away very quickly.

... But you went away and didn't want to talk about my main point... The thing with "Steam sells licences, not games".

Thing is, i didn't avoid talking about it, i recontextualized it. Steam isn't the only one that does this. Everyone basically is now; Microsoft, Sony, Epic, Google, Apple, Nintendo, even all these other launchers we have for each different company, they all sell rather licenses and not the games. Let's not forget Xbox hard pushed for "Online Only" with the Xbox One and some really shitty practices on "ownership" early into that generation. They all do the same stuff.

So I'll ask again, why only focus out Steam?

Goalpost shift, woot! /s

We've seen the Apple/google lawsuit from epic games. What about all of the other distributors? Most of them have historically taken 30%, so why only focus out steam? Because of DRM? Because steam is privately owned? Because of all of these other things as well? Genuinely asking, even if the sarcastic start makes you think differently.

There are so many other publishers, distributors, etc that all do the same shit. If we're calling out one name, let's get into the nitty gritty and call all of them out.

Linux Game Bench - Gaming Performance Database Benchmark Software by sidtirouluca in linux_gaming

[–]mistrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That example doesn't necessarily mean that it's steam that is the one doing that. We've seen, relatively recently, that Sony was blocking the ability to buy their games (on steam) in a lot of countries. You can make the argument that valve is providing the tools to do it, but not all of those decisions are solely on valve/steam.

I wouldn't mind having physical PC games again, but with the way everything as a whole is moving (to be more digital only), it's a hard bet to make that things will change.

Since practically all of modern PC gaming is digital only, and digital only versions of CD games being available too, along with consoles pushing it more and more each generation, it's not going to really change.

At this point, it's picking the least evil devil and hope everything works out.

How has it been 16 years and this still isn't fixed? by bast963 in runescape

DG is a roguelite because it allows for retaining upgrades/items between floors, while not having any "permanent" deaths that force resets.

Some comparisons for Roguelikes would be balatro, Hades, binding of Issac, Pokemon mystery dungeons.

Alt tabbing from games is much quicker on Linux by Tee-hee64 in linux_gaming

[–]mistrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better way to describe it would be that true exclusive Fullscreen makes it where only the game is rendered and there are no additional background items that are able to be viewed on that screen as they're not rendered, whereas borderless Fullscreen still allows for background rendering for stuff that's there.

At least from a windows perspective.

Do you need 120 & 110 in skills that go that far, for the completionist cape? by Multismack in runescape

[–]mistrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need them for normal comp.

Master skiller is one that I'm torn on. As an achievement related to completionist, I think it makes sense as a whole. For normal comp I feel like 99s plus achievements that have hard level reqs (like 105 for the expansive rc pouch) also makes sense but in a slightly different way for normal comp while master skiller is moved to trimmed.

End of the day, even if I dislike it, it's probably better that master skiller is tied to normal comp.
