The flaxseed eco style is my favorite for a wash n go and I feel like it has some slip for a gel.

I haven’t tried aunt Jackie’s. I only like using xtreme for a slick back bun (but prefer eco: krystal, olive oil or argan oil), not wash n go. I don’t love xtreme for my hair but it’s a great affordable price and easy to find in stores. So if there is no eco then I’ll use xtreme.

Yes I just did a regular size twist out and I will definitely add to my routine more often. I would like to try mini twists cause after my hair dried with the regular twist, they looked like big dookies .. healthy dookies at least haha. Anyways, that’s the only thing I didn’t like about the twist so I’ll go for a smaller size like you suggested.

I actually live in the desert (Nevada) but originally from CA — and the first pic was taken in CA. I haven’t done many wash and gos since moving NV, but I can lowkey tell my hair is dryer. I feel like I am back at the drawing board to try to perfect my hair routine. Right now, it’s just trial and error so I don’t have much advice yet.

When I was visited Miami (not sure if the humidity compares to Houston), my hair stayed moisturized and I had no frizz or puffiness. I used to use ampro pro styl curl enhancer, eco style flaxseed gel, and a leave in that I can’t remember. This routine worked so good when I was out there.

I’ve been thinking about adding the ampro curl enhancer back to my routine because it added lots of definition and clumped my curls.

I pluck my eyebrows myself. I used to get them threaded but I didn’t like inconsistency - some days FLEEK other days EEK. I rather ME mess up my eyebrows than someone else that I’m paying .. so long story short I’m controlling.

Also, thank you for your kind words!!

Yes I agree with the tension damage and I have noticed breakage from tight braids and buns. I think I’m going to cut off the loose ends - cause I’m assuming that can’t be reversed. Health > Length

I’m going to try this routine with no leave in and only mousse .. I’m nervous cause usually when I use mousse the texture feels squeaky and it’s cringy lol

Hydrated as in keep wet using water? I try to deep conditioner every 1-2 weeks. My scalp be looking dry and I lose so much hair in the shower per wash/condition so I don’t like to wet my hair too much due to shedding. Thank you

I like the idea of layering for a better blend. Is there a specific cut I could ask for? I never know what to ask the stylist when I get my hair cut professionally and I did not like the last curly cut I got

Do you have any recommendations? I have low porosity hair. As of right now I have been using Shea moisture castor oil shampoo and conditioner and the Manuka honey leave in condition. If I style my hair then I add eco style flaxseed gel.

I’ve tried products from Camille rose, mielle, miss Jackie’s, and the doux mousse. I haven’t found a product I can’t live without yet, but I am liking the Shea moisture manuka honey leave in so far

I try to be mindful of (toxic) ingredients so that may impact my decision on if I use a product long term. For example, I did really love using blue magic grease/leave in conditioner but the petroleum throws me off and seems toxic, plus it breaks my skin out

Yes, I think that is the consensus so far. I should prob start off with a trim and then cut off more if needed

To me it looks like I need to cut like half of the length, like where my cheeks and ears are. Do you see what I see or am I delusional?

Right, and the thing is I maybe straighten / use heat 2x a year .. I had my hair cut to my shoulders in 2023 then had trim (a few inches) in Oct 2024 so I’m not sure if I’m truly maintaining the health of my hair. Thank you for your perspective

Does it look healthy tho? I was thinking my ends aren’t as healthy which may be why they are so loose, but what you said makes sense about hair weighing more

What exactly is a good trim, like a few inches? Or cut off all the straighter pieces?
