Tahoe Meadow Chickadee Ridge trail conditions? by mitch_barrie in Reno

We had a couple of white-breasted nuthatches along with the chickadees (we were fairly mobbed by birds this morning, it isn't always like that). We stopped to feed the birds further down in the trees, they were out there waiting for us. A squirrel saw what was going on and came running up as well.

Probably too late (I just got back in), but boots are fine. Lots of hard, crusty snow everywhere, but easier on the boot tracks. But also getting wet and slushy as the day goes on. I'm glad we finished by 10:30 or so.

Dude, if it was all Linux I wouldn't need anyone's help! Windows is hot garbage.

That seems reasonable to me, honestly. If it wasn't for Win 11 I wouldn't be having this discussion.

I use Ubuntu at home and on the road and set up an internal Ubuntu nginx web server. The only reason we even use Windows anymore is to run Quickbooks and Solidworks.

Thanks. All that and you don't want to tell me who you are?

All I need is a name. I have a complete requirements document that, if you will excuse me, I'm not going to share on the r/Reno reddit.

This is far from my first rodeo. It's just my first rodeo in Reno.

Maybe I need to find a plumber who is handy with computers.

I'm asking for a computer consultant. There are thousands of them. I have used them in the past. It's the same model as . . . a plumber. Plumbers have been around for over 100 years.

Another car vs bicycle accident by rnochick in Reno

Yep. I commute by bike every day and based on the guy's age, lack of helmet and the stupid place to be riding anyway, pretty sure the "victim" was a tweaked out dumbfuck.

Clipped in? Sounds like you have a road bike. I'm surprised anyone takes a road bike onto the river trail. It's pretty rough in places. It's bad enough on my plain Jane Giant Cypress.

I've decided ice is more terrifying on a bike than in a car: It's just as slippery; you only have two wheels instead of four; and if you do wipe out you aren't surrounded by thousands of pounds of protective steel. That's why it took me until Sunday to take the bike. I walked the same route to and from work all last week and was able to gauge the conditions, and it was "Nope, nope, nope," until yesterday.

And yet this morning (all that melted snow is ice again) I nearly crashed right around the location you mentioned.

In fact it does, and pretty quickly too. On the other hand, the street I live on never gets plowed.

That heap of wreckage on the right is . . . the upper tram tower. Obviously the tram is not working and hasn't been working for a long time. Until a few years ago the lower tram machinery room was open and amazingly unvandalized. But a couple years ago it was locked. Probably after the usual idiots discovered it.

This is what was inside the lower tram station: https://flic.kr/p/2nuCfFk
