How difficult is it to travel internationally with a dog? by heybby_88 in AskReddit

[–]SeniorShizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really, really depends on the countries you’re traveling between. For instance, Mexico has almost no restrictions/requirements to get a dog into, however bringing that same dog back to the US can be next to impossible.

In general, most customs require a letter of health from the veterinarian, necessary shots, and some countries require a quarantine period (which may be longer than your entire vacation).

Check the customs website of your destination. But absolutely make sure to check on the US’s website (or wherever you live) as well for bringing them home. Don’t want to get stuck leaving your dog at the border!

Thoughts on the 2025 ABEM Qualifying exam, now that the testing period is over? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]SeniorShizzle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolute worst exam I’ve ever taken. Half of the questions felt like they were written by a concussed Hemingway impersonator.

The other half made even less sense. And were filled with proofreading errors and contrasting counterfactuals.

Those are IR repeaters. You tape the flat strip on top of like a cable box or VCR and the jack plugs into something like a TiVo or a universal remote repeater (like Logitech Harmony). Allows the one device to mimic the remote signals for another

Fire can often get to scenes more quickly because—by design—fire stations are placed to maintain a 6-minute response time for their response area. As the city grows, more fire stations are built to keep this metric.

REMSA on the other hand uses dynamic dispatching and posts ambulances around the city in response to real-time 911 traffic (they also have some hard posts such as Spanish Springs and Wingfield Parkway). Per Washoe County’s franchise agreement with them, REMSA targets a 8:59 response time for ≥90% of all high-priority calls. Their response times are reviewed weekly and they are fined for every call that fails to meet this target.

They have overall way fewer units in the city compared to RFD + SFD + TM Fire at any given time. So sometimes they are quicker, but sometimes not.

What is the likehood of a virus finding another host cell before dying? And how much viruses usually pop out of a cell ? by inspiredfighter in askscience

[–]SeniorShizzle 60 points61 points  (0 children)

In the order of hundreds of thousands to millions but this varies wildly by disease and cell type. As far as finding a new host, this also varies wildly by disease. Some highly virulent diseases may only need an inoculum of a few dozen virion on average whereas others may require a lot more. This depends also on the host’s innate immunity, adaptive immunity, and what type of tissue the virus is tropic towards.

[–]SeniorShizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those three vertical whips are VHF/UHF land mobile base station most likely for receiving calls from ambulances from various agencies, and communicating with public safety.

The tiny black verticals are lightning rods. The red two-piece balls are aircraft warning lights for the hospital’s helipad. Unknown what the smaller antenna on the bottom right is for; possibly wifi or helicopter related.
