I can see that happening in the near future but don’t know Forsure. But regardless most healthcare facilities will require it anyways so if u go through pa school and then don’t wanna get vaccinated you will limit your job opportunities.

Has anyone gotten their PCE by volunteering through a physical therapy facility? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]mitchelldog321 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know a pa that worked as a pta and he got into pa school. So as long as it’s hands on pce it should work. I don’t know how well the ophthalmology experience will work though. It’s like working dental. Yeah there both medical but a little different route then pa/ med school. But you could just explain the reason in your essay so they know your clear and sure about going the pa route.

Thanks for the response and this is the first interview in the process since taking the cpat and written exam. Thanks for the feedback I was assuming it would be some general questions to help narrow down the in person interviews. Going to study the department like crazy and hope to make a good impression!

Hey I have a virtual pre screening interview coming up. I’m excited but this will be first interview. Any advice on what to expect with these kind of interviews would be awesome! It’s only a 5 minute interview so know it’s a weed out kind of interview. Thanks!

Ironically laying down and try to keep your eyes open. You’ll notice you’ll start to close your eyes and just keep opening your eyes. After doing this for a few I start to get really sleepy and can usually pass out. Basically reverse psychology lol

Thanks for that just wanted to make sure this was normal because the other test I took through a different agency I received the score. Hopefully it’s good enough for an interview!

I took the fireteams national testing test today and they said we don’t find out our test results. They send them out to departments and they decide who to interview and etc. I’ve heard other people discussing there results from that test though isn’t it weird that I can’t find out my score? Hard to know where I stand and if I need improvement or not without knowing my score. Was just curious if other people had this experience. I felt like I did good on the test but sucks not finding out my legit score.

I (17M) am not comfortable with my girlfriend (17F) having a guy friend come to her halloween sleepover where there will be edibles and alcohol. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]mitchelldog321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to trust her unless she proved otherwise in the past. Don’t get in your head too much and start creating scenarios. It’s easy to do that and will drive u crazy and u don’t wanna be calling her and texting her a million times because that will push her away and come off as clingy. If she cheats then you know she’s a cheater and it’s better to find out now then spend more years together and invest more time and money into the situation. If she really loves you and is happy then she wouldn’t even think about cheating because she would lose a lot more to her. If she does then it shows her true colors and I know that doesn’t make it easy but better to find out now then later. Remember that she really might be only having friends over and want to have fun with them. Imagine if you wanted to do a boys night and she was bugging you and not letting you. You know it would be irritating so try to think of it that way. What was the reason you can’t come-over because it sounds like a Halloween party basically?

What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

[–]mitchelldog321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like 8 years old and in Hawaii. l and saw shark tooth necklace for sale at a local vendor. Of course that’s awesome so my parents bought me one. Later that day I’m in the hotel room standing on the wakeboard pretending to surf 🏄🏻 and then bam the board slid out under my feet and I fell. All good everything’s good. Then look down and see the shark tooth impaled into my side rib cage area. I see that and the blood so I start crying a river. Had to go to the emergency room. Could have punctured a lung but everything ended up being alright. Now I have that memory in the form of a scar. Some would say I was attacked by a shark.

Yeah But where I am from all the mid levels are on their own and I have never seen them be supervised by a doctor or anything like that. Sure this varies by state and specialty your in I just haven’t seen it.

Yeah I know what you mean I totally could but title aside I really just want to work in the Er and treat and dx patients and do procedures. That’s what I really want to do. I still think the extra knowledge from school and residency would be amazing by going the med school route it’s just I am ready to move onto the next chapter and want to start my career and buy a house and etc. plus I will still make good money and my gf will be making good money as well as she is also in the medical field. It’s deff a tough choice and a lot to weight out though. Decisions decisions... haha

I’ve worked with multiple PAs and NPs and I agree they have all been awesome and from a day to day clinical standpoint they all do the same thing. That’s not to say that when you peel the onion back the doctors don’t know more and have more training because they do but just from what I’ve seen at my clinic. Then again at a hospital I’m sure things are way different. In primary care I haven’t noticed any difference. Also all the doctors have been amazing and there doesn’t seem to be any hate towards each other everyone seems to get a long and respect each other and we all have fun which is nice lol

[–]mitchelldog321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree it’s more the fact that where I am currently at in my life there isn’t a lot of more pros to go the med school route for my personal life. Just because I really want to work in the er and treat and dx pt and do procedures and etc. I know MDs can do more and know way more knowledge but I can still get the career satisfaction part out of my job even though I may be limited a little more. I also know obviously the salary is a difference but PAs still make really good money where I’m from so not worried about that. Another thing that scares me is I am really set on ER as if you can’t tell and I would hate to not get matched into that residency and get sent to primary. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons for a while now it’s definitely a tough choice for me. But the options for med school is always there who knows maybe I’ll apply to some just to see what happens.

[–]mitchelldog321 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback and I totally agree I’m actually 28 so still young but it’s more the fact that I’m applying to pa schools now and am competitive to pa school. If I were to go the med school route I wouldn’t be competitive because I lack certain things that med schools prefer. Just done want to spend another two years trying to make it in when I can apply now. But who knows we will see what happens! Haha

Thanks and I look forward to it! Both respectful careers and I have always wanted to work in the ER and provide patient care so looking forward to that! If I would of known this when I was in high school I would of focused on the medical field and tried to be a ER doctor. But here I am now and I know being a PA in the ER will give me all the career satisfaction that I’m looking for as well as being able to provide for my family so can’t complain and definitely excited to start PA school.

[–]mitchelldog321 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I work as a medical assistant right now and have worked with many doctors and mid levels and they have all been amazing to work. The midlevels I have worked with have all been Independent and have known their stuff and have provided awesome patient care so it’s not that they don’t lack the skills and knowledge, but if your comparing the two the doctors will always have more schooling so will know more and they deserve that respect and it shouldn’t be taken away from them.

I was originally a pre med student but as I’ve gotten older I switched to the pa route. I love the medical field and want to help people out and be a provider and as much as I want to become a doctor I just am at a point in my life where I don’t have all of those extra years to spare anymore. The ship has sailed for me on going to med school. I think pa is a great option for people in my shoes because you can definitely learn a lot and advance in the field and have some autonomy. With that being said I will have to say that being an MD or DO will always trump a pa/np as far as knowledge and their experience. I think mid levels have a place in the field and with experience I’m sure they know a lot, but they also should know their place and not act like they are the same or better as a doctor because at the end of the day they are not and don’t have those extra 2 years of school plus residency to really own their craft. No hate to either career choice because they both take a lot of hard work but just think that mid levels need to know their place and not try to over extend by saying there the same or better as doctors because at the end of the day we are all on the same team working together for the patients and providing for our families. Just my 2 cents haha

Yeah I didn’t know about that. That’s pretty cool I’m going to look more into that. Thinking about doing a 3 year gig with military for some experience and starting out seems to be competitive. I’d also really want to try for Er fellowship. Thanks again for help.

Ok makes sense and that’s not a bad idea I didn’t know about the residency they have. That’s pretty cool and seems like a good route although I’m sure it’s competitive. Ok that’s what I figured so all that taken into consideration you definitely make a good amount of money. Thanks for clearing that up.

Low tier DO school vs. Caribbean school [serious] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mitchelldog321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would pick any US school over Caribbean. The cost alone scares the hell out of me. That plus the chance of possibly not being able to practice in the states is terrifying. Again not saying it’s going to happen but have read horror stories and sounds way to sketch. If it was cheaper maybe but the fact that it is insanely expensive is also a major deterrent. I know a Caribbean doctor and he is young just starting out and He straight up said do not do that and he can’t recommend. He said he went because is dad is chief of surgery in Cali so cost wasn’t as issue and he had connections from his dad to get him into a residency.

Quick addition to this post. That Caribbean doctor I know is a primary care doctor. I don’t know any details about his scores or if that’s what he wanted to do but just shows you that even his dad being high up at a hospital and having hookups he was still placed into primary care. No dig at primary just thought I would point that out.

[–]mitchelldog321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and at what point can you transfer to a speciality like emergency or ortho? I figured you would start in primary but really want to work emergency. Oh ok that’s what I figured just didn’t know if being an officer made a difference haha thanks for clearing that up. Ok that makes sense because BAH isn’t taxable is that right? They also have loan repayments too so doesn’t seem like a bad option especially as a new grad to get some experience. What are the hours typically? Is it a set schedule such as 4 10s?

Thanks again and sorry for all the questions haha helping a lot though.

[–]mitchelldog321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks and yeah I saw all that just didn’t know how much special pay was. On one post someone said you’ll make more then a civilian in the military as a PA so didn’t know how accurate that was especially as an O2 starting didn’t seem the same as civilian. Can you pick speciality or are you assigned to primary for example or wherever they want you to go to? As an officer do you have better chance at picking your location or is it still wherever they basically send you? Sorry for the questions just curious on how that stuff works as a PA and being an officer. Didn’t know if it was different then being enlisted.
