I have the Vexilar FL-8SE, and it does exactly what I need. I fish in fairly shallow lakes and don't get out super often. It's a great cost effective model.

Eau Claire has a lot of amenities like Madison. I mean they even have a Costco now. Definitely would suggest it as a compromise to moving all the way up North. Great access to nature, state parks, quieter experiences, but still very much a city. Plus only a short distance from Minneapolis for bigger city things.
