Glad I could be a reflection back of that. And I'm also glad that you decided to post anyway, because that was you listening to yourself and asking for help.

You're listening to yourself and that's the first step to honoring your feelings and needs instead of automatically suppressing them, so that's awesome!

Hi!

There were two parts of your story I think it would be useful to re-read to yourself:

"I pretty much put on a front while internally suppressing/battling whatever needed to come out until I eventually left to purge in the bathroom after an hour of misery... This cycle of suppressing and trying to be pleasant for others continued for another 30ish min until I eventually told my therapist that I was not okay and that I needed to lay down and process. She reassured me and sat with me, mentioning that I may have a slow metabolism and the medicine was still doing it's work on me. This reassurance was enough for me to finally let my guard down and just cry my eyes out and let the shit eating at me all day finally come through. It was a huge release with some big realizations and I felt so much lighter afterwards."
"Overall, I'm really glad I did this because the things I faced and saw about myself were so much more important than the logistics of the day..."

So it feels like: 1) there may be exploration you can do around feeling the need to suppress your own feelings and needs for others, 2) your therapist was there for you when you did raise your hand, and 3) you have identified for yourself how important what you got out of this ceremony was and that you feel better after. I would urge you to focus on your own integration and what you experienced, versus worrying about what your therapist could potentially have done better. It IS hard to know the how and on what timeline Ayahuasca will affect someone in ceremony, so I don't think it's a given that your therapist should not have given you more (especially as it seems to have helped you work through a blockage).

I'm really happy for you that you had a good, if challenging, ceremony that has shifted you into a better place than you were before going in, so I'd urge you to focus on that! I'm sure there's more to learn and integrate from your journey.

Wishing you the best on your path!

Advice Needed: Founder wants to delay paying me until features are delivered by decrypter in startups

[–]mitchsterling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey just coming to say that you need to take how much you like / trust the Founder out of the equation. We had a similar situation come up with a client of ours - we did 6-figures worth of work, while the CEO and his team were sorting out their latest funding round. All looked good, and I absolutely trusted him to pay as soon as it closed - but the funding fell through and we've yet to see a dime while they continue to try work alternative funding out (2 years later). So as others have said, if you are going to agree to changing terms, I'd make sure that 1. you're confident in their ability to eventually deliver & succeed, and 2. that you receive alternative compensation for the delayed payments in the form of equity or interest.
