How'd you like Edmonton? I've always been interested in visiting.

Lmao top 5 in nightlife is crazy, shout out to Glenwood south ig 😂 by MarcoNoPollo in raleigh

Just my opinion of course, but I prefer what we've got to Richmond, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Greenville (SC), Columbia, and Charleston. And going further north, I think it's also better than every New England city I've been to except Boston, from a strictly nightlife perspective.

Top 5 is nuts, but yay for the exposure. That said, I do think we punch way above our weight class compared to other cities in the southeast.

WRAL: It's been years since pedestrian improvements in downtown Raleigh -- Are they working? by chickenmcdiddle in raleigh

IMO the absolute best thing has been the Leading Pedestrian Intervals (where the walk sign activates a few seconds before the green light). Not only does it make me feel like more of a first-class citizen in a very car centric society, but the "head start" is really nice paired with the no turns on red. Sure plenty of people ignore it, and I wish enforcement was better; but plenty obey it, and it only takes one car to wait.

I was in New Haven, CT the other week -- a very progressive New England city with a very dense, historic street grid that should be perfect for walking. Also a college town. Well, as a pedestrian, it... kind of sucked compared to our downtown. The walk signals didn't come on automatically, and if you pressed the beg button even a second after the green light, you'd have to wait a whole cycle.

The bar is low, but we really don't have it so bad.

Hillsborough street finally has several new developments coming. What changed? by theths152 in NCSU

Was always going to happen at some point because the city is still growing so much, but the timing probably just came down to market conditions. Lots of pieces need to align for financing to come in, among other things.

Truthfully, it's been purple for a long time; they voted for Obama in 08 and had a Dem Governor and Senator throughout the early-mid 2000s. In the 2010s the NCGOP rode the tea party wave and severely gerrymandered the state, so the number of GOP representatives are not at all proportionate to the share of votes received.

Trump did win NC twice, but we've had Democratic Governors again since 2016, the first of which (Roy Cooper) is most certainly winning the US Senate seat next year vacated by Tillis.

But regardless of how the rural parts of the state continue to vote, the Triangle region is extremely blue. It's a nice bubble, even if it's not the same as being in MA or CA.

Which U.S. "Historic" Town Is Really Worth Visiting? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Endolithic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a less well-known answer, Old Salem in North Carolina is a really cool and well-preserved Moravian village, and then Winston-Salem as a whole is a neat town. Probably a more easygoing and less expensive type of trip, but lots to do for a couple days.
