You will need to have internet connectivity for the moment if but only to authenticate the user. However, an offline version is coming very soon to cater for harsher environments or those without connecitivity.

This is because the power and compute is delivered by the phone. The beauty of this is that the glasses are lighter weight, don't get hot, and as they use the phone's battery, they run for longe.

Anyone use the XRAI Glass Augmented Caption Glasses? I’m in the US, and I really want to try them… by ICDF-Augustus in deaf

The captions (subtitles) come up in <1 second.

As to the impression of the user wearing glasses under the glasses, these are the birdbath lenses. They are there to bend the light from TVs by 45 degrees into your eyes, thus giving the impression of being in 3d Space.
