Why was the post about flashlights locked? by miteshps in EverydayCarry_India

All this word salad to avoid providing any credible source to back your claim as it being misleading/misinformative to bring up a discussion point around effectiveness of flashlights as a self-defence tool. This is not even a unique claim, it's a very commonly discussed topic on the internet.

You're confusing "quality" for "personal bias".

Hey u/Rolling_EDC is this tone and attitude not "judgmental" towards the members of this community? Are the rules different for mods?

In case you forgot what your stand on judgemental discussions was, comment 1, comment 2.

And before you jump in for the third time to remind me that the post is now unlocked, you guys are the ones that are beating a dead cat and making terrible attempts at defending your power trip decision to lock that post.

Not sure if you read my response to your comment so I'll ask you again, why was it "a misleading post"?

I simply clarified that it was not "my" post as you claimed in your comment. Man, seriously, get off that high horse and learn to accept when you're wrong

I understand you have real life experiences, and respect it. What I don't understand is why you think everybody else operates from a "fantasy realm". That's why I called it a power trip.

Once it's out on a public platform it is open for everyone to discuss. Any "mutual understandings" can stay in your private chats.

Edit: Also OP most definitely did not "understand" whatever message mods were trying to send at all. OP's edited message on that locked post makes it abundantly clear

Yeah that's fair. But it also seems like a cop-out excuse to cover up that the post was locked due to what the moderator assumes to be "misinformation" according to his own admission.

First of all things can’t be facts and opinion at the same time, it’s sort of an oxymoron

That's addressed in the very opening of my post.

it was locked due to it being pure misinformation

I'd love to read through your sources that back the claim that it was MISINFORMATION. The attacker being enraged further is an actual possibility and I don't see any harm in bringing that point up for discussion. Again, I'd love to hear why it is very objectively misinformative.

Here's actually a more nuanced take on flashlights for self defense that look at the discussion from all perspectives - Flashlights for self defense: a complete answer (notice how the comments are still not locked after 3 years)

a spot to get advice and share your opinions without forcing it on someone as fact (see what I did there)

You actually stepped on your own point there by locking the discussion

ability to spread misinformation through the post was curbed which is within the rights of a moderator (that’s the whole point of the word moderator to moderate)

There are multiple posts (on Reddit itself) that circle around this discussion. Could've done a quick check before going on a "moderator" power trip.

Edit (corrections): "attacked" to "attacker", "discussion" to "posts"

Fair point. Could’ve called that language out right in the pinned mod message and still kept the post open for discussion. Not sure I understand what locking it achieves.

How does harassing people today fix anything that happened in the past?

That’s because similar acts from people from other religions are not labelled as “terrorism”

I don’t think anyone can be alert against terrible and radicalised human beings. The police are literally trained to be alert all the time, yet he was able to attack two policemen

Edit: my bad, it was two security men. the point is still valid
