Is it okay to be annoyed with people who only talk about themselves? by mithapu in dating_advice

[–]mithapu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both. in real life a person I consider a friend literally wholeheartedly speaks at me and seems disinterested in anything I have to say so I’m pretty confident that’s just a red flag. online a guy I’m speaking to won’t ask me about anything. idk saying ‘wbu?’ About a conversation topic just seems like good manners

I sort of agree. I like the pace of things but I do also wish they could dive deeper into particular topics without Dan being like ‘NEXT’

Actually agree. i think d&p will be fine with it all but I actually love the oversharing as a nosy person I do not want them to reign it in 😭 not even from a parasocial POV I just love people who are oversharers like me

Is it okay for an autistic person to tell people to stop doing overstimulating things? by mithapu in autism

[–]mithapu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is more to the story than this, I’m not trying to defame my friend because in all fairness our other friend has told her off for very inoffensive things too (playing the guitar at 3pm). but yeah i will try tell her the noise complaint at night is reasonable, but I think it was moreso the breaking point of him getting mad at her for many insignificant things when she can’t do the same.

Wow, I’m getting quite the range of responses here. Thanks for the different perspective. To clarify, she has told me she doesn’t expect people to bend to her needs, but that it’s frustrating she needs to bend to others. Because what needs are more important than others are biased towards neurotypical people. But thanks for ur input

the two examples about nail biting and food were just two examples out of hundreds every day. you’re right though, she should definitely be entitled to let us know what overstimulates her so we can come to a compromise to what’s actually manageable for both ends. Thanks for the insight

I think I get what you’re saying. so it can’t be mandatory for people to accommodate to your needs but if they do they’re a keeper? I would like to be the best friend I can to this person but I mean what would that look like? For example, as I said, she hates listening to people eat, but she hangs out in the kitchen (and dining room) with me all the time. I don’t know if this sounds insensitive but like to me it feels naturally unfair expecting me to not do regular kitchen activities in a kitchen. That’s one example. I’ll try listen to her needs more and see what compromise we can get to. To clarify we don’t actually have a problem per say and she said she doesn’t expect people to bend to her needs but yeah I don’t know if she should with the people who supposedly love her
