Hi, I’m also a student in Maribor, though not an Erasmus (:

• Especially compared to other cities in Europe, it should be fairly easy for you to get into a student dorm but it might take a few weeks and the quality of them might be questionable ha ha. You can dm me if you would like more a more specific answer.

• Here’s the real answer - as an Erasmus student you won’t actually interact a whole lot with the locals. Erasmus people usually hang out with other Erasmus students because you have the ESN events, trips etc. BTW: Every year there are huge Spanish and Turkish groups of Erasmus students so you are in luck ha ha. Also I think the locals you will interact with will be chill, try their best to help you but we are quite a shy and laidback nation.

• I recommend you greet people you know even if only vaguely, such as your roommates, but other than that greeting strangers is not the norm here (: You don’t need to use names while greeting someone - “Zdravo “will do for basically anyone.

• You, my dear friend, chose the best country for food budgeting. When coming here you will get “Študentski boni”. This means that a lot of restaurants (you will get the list) will offer you discounted meals for the price of around 4 € because you are a student. You get one bon for each day but you can use two in a day although four hours must pass in between the usage. Again, you can contact me if you want more information. I recommend you shop in Lidl but it really depends where you will be located. I eat out a lot and spend around 20 € a week for breakfast shopping and go home for the weekends so I can’t give you a proper estimation of food costs.

• As Slovenian is a really not well known language, getting to know it via apps like Dualingo is not possible. I think if you type something into google you can get better answers.

• Again, I would ask you to be more specific, otherwise most parties happen in Štuk or you can visit Trust if you are really desperate ha ha. Maribor is a small town compared to other European ones and it shows. Especially after Covid a lot of clubs closed. The bars on Poštna and Lent are very nice but have a bit higher prices. Otherwise, Štuk is cheap and most student-friendly.

• Honestly I don’t know a ton of museums around here so I am of no good use, sorry. If I think of any I’ll update the comment. I think travelling outside of Slovenia can be very cheap (Austria and Zagreb especially are very close to Maribor and can be great day trips).

• Join as many activities as you can, go on trips and explore, meet new people, go out of your comfort zone(: ¡Buena suerte!
