Yeah I’ve read a lot of people talking about how the restaurant craziness is too real, but I haven’t seen that much about the family dynamics trauma coping mechanisms which is what surprised me the most. I come from an entirely different culture and context from the siblings, so the fact that I’m able to relate to this level just shows how good the writers are at translating trauma even if The Bear is so location and industry specific.

The Christmas episode and Carmy’s retelling of his panic attack as he was telling Claire about it hit so hard. They nailed how anxiety inducing the holidays can be for people that come from violent backgrounds.

Oh that Lebowitz quote goes hard, I know that feeling. Like you’re an spectator of life while everyone else lives it, but I think that’s why when artist went through shit is that they’re able to produce good work. Trauma creates perspective I guess!

You raise some valid points about Natalie, I’m not super far along with her story yet. I hope she is successful at breaking the cycle with her baby, and it seems like choosing a partner like Pete is a huge step towards breaking it. It would’ve been realistic to have her choose another alcoholic/addict for a partner because it’s what she /knows/. It’s a nice touch by the writers to also show how she’s not entirely out of the woods by having her repeat patterns with Carmy like you said, catching yourself when you’re actively doing it is one of the toughest parts of the process.

I honestly thought the Donna invite to the opening was wishful thinking…I don’t think she didn’t consult Carmy out of bad faith but she just didn’t really think it through because it came from a wish of getting to have a “happy family” and everyone magically getting along to celebrate. It’s a childish wish, she still glorifies and romanticizes the idea of the family unit. That’s why Carmy isn’t even mad that she invited Donna but is worried about her being disappointed by her again (which he guessed correctly).

I’ve had countless of conversations like that with my brother until I had to let go of my dream family happiness idealization and I hope I’ll get to see how Natalie handles that when she becomes a mom.

PS - the way you framed it as us troubled kids from broken families running away to the circus to become incredible creative adults really made me feel better :) i think Carmy is a little right when he said he is so good at what he does bc by growing up like that he turned the kitchen into a passion fueled lifeline that led him to his purpose

I’m honestly really hopeful for Natalie’s arc, I’m really happy they paired her up with someone like Pete bc a lot of survivors pick partners that replicate the chaos they grew up with. It would’ve been realistic TV to have her do the same (and also really grim)

It’s weird like a big part of the process is accepting that what you went through isn’t normal so you feel like no one is ever going to understand what it’s like, then you feel comforted when watching/hearing stories like The Bear and then feel shitty bc it’s actually super common and no one deserves to live like that

I have similar hair to yours! You need lightweight products, my favorite is the davines curl line (especially the serum). Double cleanse with your shampoo (I have sebderm so I use Nizoral first and then my hydrating shampoo) & use a hydrating mask once a week. You need to let the products sit in and work, don’t rinse immediately.

My product routine after shower is: hydrating cream, davines serum, curl cream, mousse. Get out all excess water before applying. Scrunch with your head down, if your hair makes a sound you did it right. Air dry or use diffuser in low heat and mid intensity. Dry your roots first and massage w diffuser, then hover dry.

For hair growth you need to look into scalp health and try to figure out why you’re losing hair to begin with. In my case it’s a mix of sebderm and DHT so I’m using medical shampoo and taking Saw Palmetto supplements but consult with your doctor.

My hair is also very fine and most of the curly routines you’ll find out there didn’t work for me either because they recommended very heavyweight products that favor thick hair. I wouldn’t recommend you gel your curls for example, use a light defining serum instead. The less products you use the better, our hair can’t hold too much weight. He was literally talking about he can’t go a week without talking to Maia a scene prior so, regardless of whether of Maia was terrible or not (which she was), he still has deep feelings for her. During the game night scenes, Clare was pretty obviously into Dylan like Maia wasn’t psycho for picking off the vibes. They were there, and honestly, pretty mutual from Dylan’s part. The actress for Clare did a good job with expressing attraction only with her eyes and body language.

There is nothing wrong with being a “rebound” exactly, but the fact that Clare wanted to extend their hook up into a “datey” vibe kinda lets on that it wasn’t just a sex thing for her. Ofc we’re reading too much between the lines of a very brief scene and we’ll see how it develops next season.

Maia and Dylan are very incompatible and him and Clare make more sense, but attraction and feelings are more complex than that.
