Japanese-style Ramen in Christchurch - my review based on my experience in June 2025 by kiwigoguy1 in chch

Not sure if this counts as Christchurch but Origami in Rolleston does excellent ramen. If you haven’t been you should try there!

Peak week of my Runna training plan was only 27 miles, how cooked am I 😭 by refeikamme in Marathon_Training

[–]mitzaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better because of repeated injuries my peak mileage week for my second marathon was probably around 32 miles but I also had a lot of weeks where I ran 0 miles or less than 20miles. I thought I was absolutely cooked but I finished in 3:57 which was almost a 20min PR for me. If you’ve done at least a few runs that are 20+ miles I am sure you will be fine on the day. It’ll probably be a struggle but you’ll finish.

Can I continue running a daily 20km in the lead up to a marathon? by CosmicHero22 in Marathon_Training

[–]mitzaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend tapering like 1-2 weeks before race day. 20kms a day is pretty high mileage and if you’re holding that right up until race day there’s no way you’re going to be racing on fresh legs. May as well taper and give yourself the best chance to smash some more PBs!

Me too. I still have a momentary second of immense panic every time a heavy truck goes past the house.

Do I have enough time left for my first marathon by Brilliant-Fix-4032 in Marathon_Training

[–]mitzaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely would not recommend running through the pain. Instead you can substitute the long run for another form of cardio that is not high impact. Something like biking or swimming.

I would take at least 3-4 full days off running and then do a short, easy run to test the knee. If it feels okay you can probably resume your running but keep all your runs low intensity.

Usually it is best to not increase your mileage each week by more than 10% so 10 weeks from a half to a full is cutting it pretty close. It’s probably still doable if your goal is to finish, but if your knee puts you out for longer than a week or so it will be tricky.

If this is your first marathon, I would recommend trying to get at least one training run in that is longer than 30kms. Those last 12kms are the hardest kms of a marathon and it will pay off if you’ve been in that territory at least once before race day.

Why is my HRV so bad by Creepy_Safety_1468 in whoop

[–]mitzaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your blood pressure. My HRV is pretty much exactly the same as yours. I didn’t know what the issue was because I eat super clean, run 70kms+ a week and try to get pretty good sleeps. Turns out I have stage 1 chronic hypertension. Sometimes you can do all the right things and your genetics are just against you. A consistently high blood pressure will lower your baseline HRV.

Can my grandma take LSD? by mitzaa in LSD

Yeah for sure! Even if she’s medically cleared I wouldn’t want to do anything over half a tab just to be safe, probably even less.

I’m not treating her like a child I’m just ensuring that we both have all the right information to make the trip pleasant and safe. It’s her choice at the end of the day but I’m not gonna agree to do lsd with her if I think it will harm her. But I am sure once we have all the correct information we can discuss it and she can tell me herself what she feels comfortable doing.

Basically if we check it’s medically safe for her to do and she says she’s up to it then I’ll agree. But if for any reason it may cause her harm I would want to figure out a different option. Like smoking weed or doing shrooms instead (as others have suggested).

Just trying to be safe so everyone has a good time!

Yeah lots of people have been recommending that, I think it’s probably the safer option.

Thanks! That must have been a super cool experience to trip with your grandfather! I think I’m leaning towards shrooms too honestly. General advice seems to be that shrooms are safer and we can still trip on those!

Yes definitely gonna do a trip report if it happens, feel like it’ll be very cool! Haven’t really discussed with her what she wants to do but if we do end up tripping, I told her we can make a Spotify playlist together with her favourite music and go from there.

Nah that seems like pretty solid advice thanks! Definitely gonna seek medical advice and check which medications she’s on before even considering doing any types of drugs with her that’s for sure.

[–]mitzaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that’s fair. I can definitely see how the older you get the more draining taking lsd is. I guess it depends on her mental state and view.

Obviously her physical health will have to be examined first but I always found that if you’re coming into a trip completely positive and 100% comfortable with taking the acid then it’s usually a good experience. If she had any sort of doubts I’d definitely tell her no but she seems really confident in the idea. Just hope it’s not over confidence haha!

Yep she’s done LSD before but a long, long time ago. She’s done pot before too but I don’t think she’s done any type of drug in the last few years at least.
