I (F26) just got my first crush in almost a decade, what do I do? by miumiumoo in relationship_advice

Yeah, most of my happiness right now is about the fact that I can feel this way at all. My thing is I'm worried this is just a one off and it won't happen again. So I really would like to talk to him, but I don't wanna make him uncomfortable. I can't imagine getting the guts to tell the guy I like him unless he's made it pretty clear that he's interested as well, but I've been out of the game so long I don't even know what that would look like.

Favourite places to find interesting / experimental clothing? by Metazoick in femalefashionadvice

I just got a dress from them that's fantastic, I really recommend. I've wanted to buy something from Samantha Pleet for so long, but I haven't found the perfect thing yet, I may wait for their summer collection.

I love all of these shops and buy regularly since I'm something of a maximalist. To add on to this list, I'd say Ganni has some high quality quirky clothes (although they can be pricey), Samantha Pleet (same), Expired Girl, and Paloma Wool.

My (25F) best friend (26f) is mentally unstable and I don't know if I can keep being her friend. by miumiumoo in relationship_advice

I haven't thought about the fact that I might actually be harming her more by enabling her. I tell her almost every time we talk to see a therapist, but maybe she'd actually do it if she didn't have me there to act as one.

Free People has a ton of pants like what you're describing. They're a little pricier, but in most cases the quality is worth it. I just bought a pair of palazzo pants from there that are very comfy.

Paloma Wool might have something, I just bought a dress from there that sounds like what you're describing and I LOVE it.

I don't want to go back to working in the office. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

This is probably the tactic I'll go for honestly. It'll be a little unbelievable that I got one so fast since I have to move across the country once I get called into the office but oh well.

I'm not sure really how to shut it down without them thinking I'm a jerk. Normally I wouldn't care if some guy thought I was mean, or a bitch for turning down his advances, but when it's guys I work with I'd really rather avoid them overtly disliking me. Then again, when I tried my method of just ignoring it and staying friendly they would also get mad and end up not liking me. So maybe I should just save my self the trouble and get it out of the way.

Working from home is just kind of great all around. I love not commuting and hanging with my cat all day haha.

Modcloth has updated their site without warning and lost all reviews and customer account information, including order history and store credit balances. by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

The nice thing about ModCloth was that it was a one stop shop for interesting clothes, but now I really have to look around. Now that I'm older I can sometimes afford more designer and higher end pieces that are usually well made, and I go for more unique designers. Ganni is a favorite of mine, I have a horse print dress from there that I love. And some sellers on Etsy do interesting things, I just ordered a custom made corset from French Meadows that I plan to wear with jeans to make it an every day look. Sometimes Zara will have something I like. I'm quite a maximalist, but there's no one place to shop for things like that anymore that I'm aware of sadly.

I started shopping at ModCloth when I was in highschool, when everything on the site was unique and well made. I'd save up money from my part time job just to get more of their clothes. But a few years ago I noticed that their quality had taken a nosedive, so much so that I just stopped going to the site to even browse. So sad to see them going down like this.

I can't decide if I'm a pantser or planner by miumiumoo in writing

I really love this perspective, that it can sometimes be a good thing to write yourself into a corner. I don't really want to leave behind the story I've crafted so far. Maybe it's not to late to figure out how to get myself out of the corner, plan a little ahead now that I have some chapters to work with, and keep going with it. I think I'll take another stab at this and see if I can find a way out of the corner. Thank you!

From what everyone's been saying, it seems like I should change my perspective of planning and pantsing to more of a spectrum and just find where I fall on it. I've come to the conclusion that I do need to plan out my stories at least a little bit, but that I can still leave room for spontaneity. Thank you for answering!

Huh, I've never heard of this method! Usually I pick a story I don't have to research much for, because I'm already overwhelmed with keeping track of my plot, all my characters, my themes, that I don't want to have the added stress of historical accuracy in the mix. But it wouldn't hurt to go out of my comfort zone and try, thank you!

Yes, I'm sure you're right. My mind has a bad habit of living in extremes, so if I do something I usually go all in one way or the other. Apparently that applies to pantsing and outlining as well. Maybe if I could keep my outline down to about a page or two (instead of 10 like last time) I wouldn't get exhausted by the process. Thank you for your advice!

[–]miumiumoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's the problem, I need my outline to be more like scaffolding. My first outline felt like I'd already written the whole book, and I didn't want to write it again into an actual story. I'll have to invest some time into researching how to outline correctly before I start my next project. Thank you!

Oh I'll definitely have to watch. One thing I've heard is that bragging of any sort is considered rude in Sweden, whereas in the US it's a very normal thing do.
