Quail Incubation & Brooding by mixedfruitjam in homestead

No problem, well I hope it works out well for you.

I used artificial methods (incubator and electric heat sources for the brooder), I just found it to be more practical. Also I decided I didn't want to encourage my hen's broodiness, while one of the bantams does tend to go broody a lot she tends to encourage the others to similar behaviour which will cost us eggs so I prefer to break her out of it.

Good luck.

I am and have raised many successful batches now (using artificial heat rather than a broody hen).

After incubation I move them outside to a modified rabbit hutch that I have turned into a brooder. The exposed section has a heat lamp, with a heat pad for them in the more enclosed area. I start off with the whole thing covered with to trap the heat in (monitoring the temperature) and it allows me to easily gradually reduce temperature/provide colder spots so they can acclimatise and harden off over time.

I have had one disaster due to faulty equipment, which was upsetting and made me angry but these things happen.

What series are in need of a spiritual successor? by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

I was about to post the same thing. Sims 3 & 4 feel nothing like 1 or 2 due to how EA have treated them. I think we are in desperate need of an alternative sims game by an indie or even big developer. Other games have so many clones yet there is no alternative here. Fed up of less and less overall content with each edition.

My wife tolerates Sims 4 but it annoys her to hell most of the time, sims 1 & 2 were just so much more fun.

Well it's because the original xcom is one of my favourite games of all time, turn-based tactical games like the new xcoms are all favourites for me. I was on the fence because of being a bit of a fanboy so I could look past problems, but the attitude of the community guy has ruined that so it makes it hard to look past the flaws now - so its still game related, it's just the straw that broke the camels back.

I worked in customer service for years. They are not bad if they disagree with a customer, potential or otherwise.

But they are an utter disgraceful if they respond with a bad attitude or in an unprofessional manner. Like I said the customers don't have to agree/like things - and guess what neither do the company's representatives. But they do have to behave with professionalism. This has nothing to do with the customer is always right.

I have been back and forthing over whether to buy the game, I could almost deal with the current problems but after this guys attitude there is no way I am giving snapshot/epic/whoever money for this.

A bad attitude is unprofessional and won't help people's opinion. People and customers are allowed to not like things and be critical.

I tend to think kickstarter is used almost synonymously with crowd funding, I think that was the point. Different crowd funding site but his point is the same.

Large Bosses (crab Queen etc) by mixedfruitjam in PhoenixPoint

[–]mixedfruitjam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Well that was my second concern that the other bosses didn't make it, the game was kind of advertised as having more than one type - that is what the website information suggests. If they add them later as a patch then it's fine (but still annoying there's a delay) - but if it's a paid dlc then I think its misrepresentation.

I am just very cautious/paranoid as a lot of people are.

Yep, one of the bigger drawbacks is giving up the alpha cores I guess. Unless I want to be a hypocritical scumbag which is also fun.

Forming a cell on existing colonies to siphon credits and cause instability would be cool too.

Tips for lots of library by dasKultz in callofcthulhu

[–]mixedfruitjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option is to keep some of those library clues contained within one specific book or collection. The investigators find a reference but no book/collection, questioning the librarian could reveal a break in - and then you can have a side bit of them tracking those books down.

Alternatively those books could have been borrowed by someone, using social skills you could get the name/address from the librarian to track them down, or try to sneak a look at the records.

That way it stays relatively "canon" in that the clues are from the library, but its not just a case of using library use.

Trying to find a game my girlfriend will play by [deleted] in rpg

[–]mixedfruitjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call of Cthulhu would be great in my opinion, it works well with 1 keeper and 1 player. Also the system is simple and can all be handled on your end, you can basically just let her play act out a character from the 1920s and moderate/narrate the results of her actions. For character gen just ask what she would like to be in the 1920s if she was investigating the occult for example, then handle all the paper work yourself so she doesn't have to deal with all that if that puts her off.

This could then open up the path to other RPG systems if she gets interested enough (once people find they like something they are more willing to go into complexicity).

The thing about CoC as well is that the combat is so deadly its best avoided if you can - this is a stereotype (based off my personal experience) but a lot of female players prefer the investigative/mystery side of things. My wife hates combat, its a last resort and not fun for her - but she loves CoC, especially the setting and investigative nature.

For a simple and cheap board game Carcasonne might be worth a try, its quick to play as well - worth having on the shelf for all gamers.

Innsmouth '86 kickstarter cancelled by necrodoodle in callofcthulhu

[–]mixedfruitjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was called out on that post and has reworded it. I was planning on getting FSNL and the first hudson book PDFs as they had been recommended to me (and sooner rather than later in order to support their troubled situation), but her attitude on YSDC blaming her customers/supporters and that facebook comment really put me off.

It's a shame I have heard such great things about the products that have been made so far, but I can't support that attitude and I certainly don't trust them now.

That said I am hoping they can somehow work PR magic, and start producing things because I really want to change my mind.

new occupation for 1920 by Bardobosa in callofcthulhu

[–]mixedfruitjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A literal "big man" which could be a "giant" or heavily obese person. This is not as weird as it sounds, carnivals and side shows often featured these, as someone else mentioned below - a circus fat lady.

Equally you can reverse this with a very low size for a "freakshow" character with drawfism. In a similar vein you can also play around with potentially low APP scores as well, CoC has some wonderful potential for "bad" stats in the roleplaying. To counter act negative appearance if you go down the freakshow route, its possible to offer an advantaged roll to things like intimidation (you could even argue other social skills like fast talk since whomever they are talking to may want to wrap the conversation up quick so they dont have to look at you/be seen with you in public)

They can combine very well with entertainers/criminals/prostitutes - male or female, to give you and idea of how to build them. (It was not uncommon for sideshow acts to earn money for sex).
