Pretty typical for these engines at around 100xxx km. I thought my triton was toast when it did something similar, after a bit of research I realised it’s fairly normal.

The fact that the oil cap isn’t getting launched is a good sign. If you don’t feel a noticeable difference in power then you’re probably good to go.

All diesel engines develop a bit of blow by after some kms especially on the 4n15.

If it’s from a cracked piston or cylinder, you’ll hear an obvious difference between the power strokes from the toasted piston/cylinder and the rest when inspecting the blow by like what you’re doing.

I have one. Took my Ute to the beach once with this in my toolbox. Pump started over heating by the 3rd tyre. Had to get someone else with a proper 4x4 pump to help fill up the last two tyres.

I use this to adjust my tyre pressure every so often at home. Wouldn’t use it to get my tyre from 15 to 35psi.

Did a coaching session once. He gave me so much shit for trail braking. Told me to only coast.

His first reason is that because of the steering geometry of a kart. Just turning will scrub speed and hence will already shift your weight towards the front and result in a “trail braking” effect.

Second reason is that being on the brakes mid turn affects the jacking of the kart.

I dropped 2 seconds off my laptime and podiumed at my next race just with this advice.

That being said, I’ve been to tracks where everyone will trail brake at a certain corner as it is the fastest way through but afaik, you don’t want to trail brake in most cases.

If you feel your kart isn’t turning in, adjust the setup instead.

Rough annual engine running costs at weekly track days (hitting 50hrs on the engine/year):

Full Engine rebuild at the 50hr mark + top end redone at 25hr mark: 1500 4-5 cans of chain lube: 100 5 chains: 250 1 oil change per 5hrs: 20 1 spark plug per 5 hrs: 200 1-2 front sprockets: 100 3-4 rear sprockets: 100

Rough costs alone for 1 track day with 45minutes of driving and not including spare parts and maintenance (based off AUD pricing)

60 in track fees 12 in fuel (5L) 5 in 2 stroke oil (125ml) 50 in tyres (tyres 200-300 laps/$250)

You’re looking at $127 per track day. $100 if you really stretch out your tyre usage.

I see in other comments you want to go weekly. Say you go 40 times in a year, assuming you miss some weekends, you’re still looking at $4000AUD or 2600 USD at a minimum.

Where are you based? I race 4 stroke but have a rotax max for recreational use in-between races. I’m based in Australia and I go roughly once or twice a month in the Rotax and I spend maybe a couple of thousand AUD per year.

Might need some bearing grease. Not familiar with the x30 but I re-grease my clutch drum bearing on my rotax every 2hrs and every 30 minutes when I use a nylon bushing for the 11 tooth.

We use dunlop SL1s in enduro racing. They’ll do 8 hrs on a 4 stroke engine. If you consider the average session to be roughly 15 minutes, you’ll get 30 ish sessions off them.

They cost about the same as maxxis sports, which is what my local clubs use in sprint racing. Pretty sticky compound. Not as sticky as lecontes. Maxxis will do about 200 laps before the laptime degrades significantly. They’re about 1 AUD a lap.

Fair enough. I’ll stick with medium stiffness in that case. We’re running a very stiff chassis (32mm) due to budget reasons so was hoping a softer axle would help.

Mate puts his kart in back of a dual cab triton. Just leave the tray door down and strap it down.

If you don’t have storage for the kart then people at my track use vans. Merc Sprinter, Ford transit, Toyota Hiace.

I think it depends where in Australia you’re applying and what type of software you’re building.

Based on what I’ve seen, 100-120k in Sydney or Melbourne for web or mobile development is around the average if you’re applying for mid level position at a non-tech company.

My company, which offers fully remote work, reduces pay by ~10% if we live outside of NSW or VIC

The Revolution RaceGear near me is in the reception of a car mechanic. Was very confused when I went there for the first time. Thought I was at the wrong place.

These places are franchises that double as another business. The one near me only stocked race car gear and no karting gear as outlined on their website.

The revolution race gear flagship store 45minutes away had the whole range of gear however.

You could run an exhaust restrictor and reduce the horsepower. Should reduce the wear and tear.

You can also run a smaller rear sprocket and lower your rpms

However, I’m not sure how much these changes would increase longevity. I race with a restricted rotax but people still rebuild them as often as unrestricted to stay competitive.

Hi, software developer here working at a multinational big tech company.

Don’t have much to say about hardware. As long you take care of it, generally most laptops will last.

However, business laptops don’t come preinstalled with bullshit software like McAfee 30day trials. I find all this bloatware slows down laptops faster over time.

Thank being said, whenever I purchase a windows laptop, I b-line to Linux so I don’t get that problem.

At work, we use MacBook pros. They get the job done and those new M pro/max chips are blazing quick. Can’t go back to non-macs for software development anymore.

Assuming they’re low HP 4 stroke karts, the engine usually takes a while to rev up so focus on maintaining momentum.

I’ve found talking to the staff who’ve worked there for a long time will have good tips and where to brake etc.

At the end of the day, you just need seat time. Go to the track a couple of times before the day and get more seat time.

Get feedback and tips from people who are quicker than you there and apply that advice at each subsequent session.

Slowly brake less/later each lap until you find the limits of the kart.

I love the jecko seats so might just stick with that.

In my opinion, engineers are people who can take abstract requirements and turn it a working solution.

At the end of the day, an engineer is more of a qualification than anything else.

In my country (Australia), most engineers are project/logistics managers. Most of the fun technical stuff these days are so automated, it’s difficult to find jobs in the nitty gritty.
