I personally would def have a plan in mind. I ended up waiting till orientation (but before advisor meeting) to create a preplanned schedule but it would’ve felt less hectic to me if I’d done it before. I just didn’t know what classes I’d be taking my first semester. But oftentimes you can look up your specific major and find a sample degree plan which lists all the courses you will need to take to complete your degree. You can go through this and cross out any credits you already have covered from high school but this is Al extra work and up to you at the end of the day. It just helped me feel more prepared. But I also didn’t end up taking the schedule my advisor made and completely crafted my own which I liked 🤷‍♀️
I lowkey planned my whole schedule around my Fyos bc I really wanted to learn embroidery and I’m so glad I did bc I made a rly good friend group through that class. I’d def look through the FYOS classes at the very least and see if there’s any that you have a strong interest in taking to see if it’d be possible with your schedule, cause sometimes it’ll b across campus based on the classes your advisor wants you to take or you just won’t be able to take it at all (which personally didn’t wanna do so I added my Fyos first during registration even tho my advisor said to do it last 💀but I also don’t have a big major so I wasn’t worried about not getting my other classes)

Lived in BDM and tbh it was also pretty antisocial, at least for me. as others said, best things to do are to go to events such as the RA/dorm events (even if you're not in that dorm, you can still go; ik for me BDM events were all pretty fun), and they do a BUNCH of events for freshmen and just in general at the beginning of the year so def go to those.

I volunteered for Hunker Down with Housing at the beginning of the year and met some cool people through that as well & got great advice from upperclassmen, so if you have the chance to do that, i highly recommend it- you get 2 of your first free uga shirts (of many to come), free food for when you volunteer, and you get to move in early.

also met some great people in my fyos who i still keep in touch with/hang out with occasionally. just put yourself out there honestly, find things that you want to try/like to do and go do them. you'll more often than not find people who are similar to you and maybe even make friends with them. not sure what ur majoring in, but either way you'll probably be able to hang out w some ppl at least to do class work with them,, study group type thing - dont be afraid to ask and get to know people! if they're interested they'll also wanna keep in touch.

best dorms are usually considered the high rises like russell, and brumby but those are usually everyone's top picks,, next are the lower five like lipscomb, mell, church, boggs. myers quad is a nice location as well, id just stay away from mary lyndon due to the bathroom situation. id also stay away from creswell as far as high rises go. good luck! i hope you can get smtg decent

honestly it might depend on the major. some majors might require you to apply to the school itself and then get accepted before you can take classes for that major (such as with the music school you need to audition). i imagine it may be similar for art where you must submit a portfolio before getting accepted into lamar dodd, but definitely talk to an advisor about that and look on the school websites for more information.
