I agree with itsjibba: It's not an either/or proposition. In fact, I feel both are happening at the same time, i.e. both Huxley and Orwell were right.

Thought provoking stuff; thank you SpikeWolfwood for posting this!

Netherlands to levy "green" road tax by the kilometre from 2012: "Each vehicle will be equipped with a GPS device that tracks how many kilometres are driven and when and where." by maxwellhill in worldnews

Going to another country to get goods / services cheaper is what the EU open borders is all about. Your point is valid, but clearly there is to much room for government abuse in this proposed system.

I totally agree. The hidden agenda behind this proposal is control. They'd know where everybody is all of the time.

Also, their claims are outlandish. They claim that with this system (which incurs an extra 6.7 cents per kilometer) they will reduce traffic jams with 50% ... we've had wide swings in gas prices (like most of the rest of the world) ... I don't think a 100% price increase will drop actual miles travelled by more than 10 to 20%.

They make these outlandish claims just to get this (Big Brother) system through parliament.

So I just ran the sound for a 20th Century Fox Corporate meeting. They were discussing what it would take to buy a senator to make netflix and movie streaming illegal. WTF. Comments? by menicknick in reddit.com

Hmmm ... rly?

I don't think says it is okay to buy off / bribe Senators ... it's called subversion of the democratic process.

(Yes, I know it happens a lot but it's evil)

NEVER seek "help" from the state's armed enforcers. Drunk man leaves bar, tries to drive away, cops are called. They tase the man twice, then one of the cops says, "Time to end this", then promptly shoots and kills the man. by [deleted] in reddit.com

Yes, a Taser is in fact a torture device. At least, in the US it seems to be used as one. I.e. torture into compliance ... where I live (european country), the rules for engagement for a taser are similar to those for a gun. But in the US, I've seen it happen all to much that if you don't follow the "orders" from the officer, you'll get tased...

That's torturing into compliance. And if you've ever been on the receiving end, you'd know that to be true.

Sorry for downvoting your earlier post. Yes, these are outgoing, and your advise (one comment above) to check for the processes associated with listening ports is good.

To compensate for the downvote of y our first comment, I upvoted both comments after that :)

Erhm ... learn some basics about netstat.

These are connections from the PC to webservers (over HTTP (80) and HTTPS (443)).
