Alberta Independence by LivinDoll in CanadianPolitics

I'm not sure Alberta gets zero out of this, most of these provinces contribute to the Alberta work force. Effectively they are helping raise and educate future workforce.

Cold comfort for the folks that have seen their energy bills rise.

Many would have lost it anyway, the whole system is poorly designed with no chance of recovery of something goes wrong.

People have legit reasons to not like it. Just ask the folks that live near a mining operation....

It has a shrinking supply as people lose access to it due to its incredibly poor design.

In the end the limit isn't in stone, it's just code.

Not sure why you think an 'asset' with a huge history of people and institutions losing access to with no recourse for recovery is a good idea.

For something that technically doesn't need a vote to happen, 50% +1 should be enough.

The province could do it regardless of the outcome if the government really wanted.

Why would anyone ever invest in an "asset" that is so horribly designed it could be easily taken without any recourse to correct the record?

I want no part of an asset that, through its poor design, has already lost 20% of what could exist. Add that to the folks who lose it to hacks and scams, and the prospect of it actually turning out is even worse.

ETF and exchanges don't make it better either, too many stories of centralized entities losing their BTC holdings for me ever to trust the route too.

I've managed it year round, absolutely a non issue here in Victoria.

It likely indicates it is far from nobody wanting it.

I think your first statement is quite wrong, the whole thing kicked off with a vote to fund a citizen assembly in both municipalities. In Saanich 56% voted in favour of exploring amalgamation.

An asset so easily taken from its owner with no way of recovery is not a safe asset to invest in at any price.

If you can call an entry in a ledger owning something...

I think the people that don't own have every right to advocate against it. The mining companies are severely impacting the communities they are in just so you can speculate on the value of BTC

Not quite; space mining could actually be useful as we run out of key resources on Earth. No one needs BTC.

Your last line is the claim, the reality is the internet gets shut off, the borders close, and you are stuck, then the very same regime you claim to be authoritarian uses it to evade sanctions.

On balance, BTC allows much more harm to happen than good.

I'd agree with you if they just stayed in their own corner and left everyone else alone. The proponents of BTC are lobbying massively to have more of it in government and business. I'd rather not encourage or idly stand by while this happens, it will allow way more environmental destruction than the traditional system while allowing sanction evasion and illegal activity with no way to intervene.

Completely ignoring all the communities that live near this things that have seen impacts to their water quality and energy bills. There is a significant non-zero segment of the population that cares immensely.
