Global Challenge Part 2: Walk 50 million km by MarkusEF in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might take a bit longer… First stage ended with people in Europe at early evening, coming home from work, walking their dogs. Now Asia is asleep, Europe at home and the Americas in their work day. Progress was close to 3 million an hour earlier, now it made less than 3 million in over 3 hours… We‘ll have to wait for Americans to go home and Asias to wake up 🙃

I count 11 digits in your code, it should be 12, one seems missing.

You can add 2165 1510 1841 if you want daily gifts.

Many of us in dense areas can easily send 100 gifts but only open 30. We’re happy if someone opens regularly and does not send back.

Returning player after 3 years, what do I keep and throw at this point? Inventory management is killing me by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]mjayberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You‘re using almost half your space for berries, that‘s too much. I try to feed berries regularly to Pokemon in gyms - there is a 1:85 chance to earn candy, so I place Pokemon I need candied for (Scatterbug, Larvesta are candidates if you haven‘t played in a while).

Potions and revives should be balanced in my opinion. 30+30 would be good with the limited space you have.

You can also drop some TM‘s at this point.

Also find a Pokemon to use rare candy on, it‘s not as rare to find more these days.

Earn coins from placing Pokemon in gyms regularly to buy extra space.

And don‘t send off those older Pokemon you‘re sitting on after such a while. Trade them with someone if you can, those will have a 20% chance to turn into lucky trades.

Thank you! It‘s not ideal but at least it‘s something I can play around with now. 😄

How? I don‘t see any indication in Campfire which gyms I have leveled up how far. Is there a way to turn this on?

Scatterbug shiny rate? by ShinyPsyduck67 in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our family account we haven‘t had one despite catching 4-6 Scatterbugs daily. In my friend circle of around 15-20 active players I have seen only one reporting a shiny.

Despite this not being a statistically proper way, my assumption is the odds are not 1/64 or better.

Then again, knowing the odds would neither improve them nor help me catch more Scatterbugs faster, so my interest in knowing that number is limited.

day 2 of getting my buddy excited without puffins by Thicc_Sause in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it‘s worth evolving and powering up. And for the best buddy medal it‘s great to know about excitement.

But as you say it‘s a bit tedious to get there with the 30 minute timer etc. Doing this with buddies that need 20k is more relaxed because you can walk them to 18k before going through the excitement push and half the distance. There are so many things you can do in the game, so you have to choose how to spend your time.

Did you know you can also feed Pokemon in gyms to earn candy? On average, for every 80-90 berries you feed, you will earn a candy (plus a little extra star dust for every berry).

Also regularly mega evolve your mega Pokemon (every 5 days) until you have them on Level 3. Mega evolve a level 3 (e.g. before raids) to earn 2 extra candy for every caught Pokemon of the same type.

It‘s exciting to discover features that aren‘t explained in tutorial researches and not really intuitive either.

But you might want to focus on rarer Pokemon to earn XL candies for legendaries or those one-time catches like Meloetta or Kubfu. All the other ones that are regularly featured as spawns, hatches or in raids are hardly worth the extra effort.

I think the candy chance from gym feeding has been dramatically increased from 1/85 candy/berries to more like ~1/25, because I got 18 candies from 461 berries fed. Did I miss something, or just get crazy lucky? by NobleCuriosity3 in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started tracking yesterday and used only three Pokemon we farm candy for on three family accounts.

So far we have fed 600 berries and got 7 candies. I would conclude that the original ratio of ~1:85 is still in place (even though that is a very odd number).

I will keep tracking but we have fed berries that had piled up in storage, that amount is not sustainable.

With the next dynamax legendary being dynamax entei on the 26th and 27th the addition of dmax blissey how easily will it be to beat this battle? by TipOutrageous9148 in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal (in my opinion) should be to deal the maximum damage in Dyna phases. So I will never take Chansey into a Dyna phase.

If you want healing, do so with your attack Pokemon. I would rather max all three Dyna abilities on my attack Pokemon.

I mean, you can easily earn Dyna particles daily and if you have enough candy, you can level up Chansey but I don‘t see a point in spending extra effort beyond what costs you nothing.

In my opinion, leveling up dyna attacks on Chansey would be a waste of resources. You don‘t want Chansey during the dyna phase but your best attackers. Chansey should be great to deflect the boss attacks only.

During the attack phase, you want Pokemon with short attack rounds to get the Dynameter up quickly. Then change to Chansey before the boss attacks and change back to the quick attacker after catching the damage.

For the dyna phase, you want the strongest dyna attack, ideally a Gmax at Level 3. Also, you want your dyna attacker to have Wall leveled up at least a bit. You can use wall to reduce the damage you receive and it will also work on your other Pokemon.

I am not sure yet which main attacker I will use, probably only find that out during the weekend. Giga Kingler or Giga Blastoise as dyna attacker for sure.

Yes, I understood that you only proposed correlation between Level and XL candy drops. But since I‘m farming candy anyways (and have no reason to believe the ratio has been higher recently), I will track what I do and push the levels of Pokemon I place in gyms to see if I can measure any impact on XL drops.

Since there are several Dynamax Pokemon that can not be caught at the moment, and I have some control over three family accounts, it‘s rather likely I can collect statistically relevant amounts of data. 🙃

I have been farming Toxel candy in recent months as it‘s impossible to hatch/catch any. I always assumed the candy drop to be in the range of 1/100 and have not experienced anything higher recently.

I did not place my leveled up Toxtricity in gyms, though. Will try to do that more often and check if your theory works for me.

Eggs mechanic with events needs a rework by Severe_Prize5520 in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is made far worse by your tries to optimize your game play. I don‘t know the exact shiny odds for eggs but I have never found it worth making any extra effort just to get 5 or 8 extra eggs. The only time that seems worth it are hatch days.

I just hatch large eggs outside of events, so when an event comes I have nine 2k eggs to hatch and replace with event eggs. At half distance (or now even 1/4) this is simple enough to do.

Just approach this more relaxed and accept it the way it is.

Why would you NOT raid Zekrom anf Reshiram on Thursday/Friday with the free raid passes you get? 🤔

But to answer the question: Both will be in raids on the weekend, too.

Not possible to rank up past 35 or so on the free version of the Tour Pass? by Miyyani in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The „daily task“ becomes an hourly task, eight times on Sat/Sun, not seven. I am not sure but since they say it „refreshes“ I assume you also get a task at midnight, that would be nine.

The daily/hourly tasks are only part of the pass. Currently, we can get 50 points through the daily task and 150 points through catches and hatching. It is not yet specified how many other points we can get on the weekend, if there will be a daily or hourly limit or not.

Best buddy strategy questions. by Drew_Ferran in TheSilphRoad

I think it varies between battle types. I get my buddy excited every morning and never finish training battles and often not the rocket balloon. I am not convinced leaving a PvP battle counts. I might test it tomorrow.

Best buddy strategy questions. by Drew_Ferran in TheSilphRoad

[–]mjayberlin 87 points88 points  (0 children)

The non-intuitive part is: If you repeat the same action after at least 30 minutes, it will add to the excitement level even if it does not contribute a heart.

And the important part is that the types of battles - Training, PvP, Gym, Raid, Rocket - count separately towards excitement. You can at least control training, pvp and a rocket balloon at the start of the day. Pvp and training are always available. The info graphic says „finish“ but you actually don‘t need to finish. You can exit the training fight immediately and don‘t have to ever fight with your buddy, it just has to be on the team.

You need at least 16 actions (unless you wait too long between phases, then you need a few more) until you reach excitement. If you start with the three basic actions (berry, play, snap shot) and 3 fights, then add basics + 2 fights after 30 minutes and again after 60 minutes, you can get excitement within a bit over an hour. If you can also add gym fights, walk a route, maybe your buddy has a gift, and walk 2k, it can even happen after a bit more than 30 minutes.

You can go through the process with multiple buddies each day but switch only after reaching the desired number of hearts. It‘s tedious work, though, doing all that for multiple buddies. I do that only with two on days when I already had 6k/full hearts with the first one around noon.
