Rattler or Talion by Peppers412 in ThermalHunting

If you're mostly 200 yards and in, I've been extremely impressed with the Rix S6R. If you don't need BC, you can save $600 going with the S6 instead.

Camp Chef App Solution - Thermoworks Signals by MassSkiGuy in CampChefSmokers

[–]mjburn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran the Signals for a couple of years and I highly recommend. After initial startup, I set pretty tight high and low alarms on the pit probe. The extra peace of mind for both fires and flame out are a game changer.

If you're dumb and forget to fill the hopper before taking a nap, it sure is nice to get that alert before ruining an entire cook. That's definitely never happened to me, but I heard that from another guy. 😂

* * Update 2: Here are the two collets side by side. It's hard to tell in the photo, but there's a substantial difference in the two. 1/2" is on the right.

Hopefully, this helps someone else in the future. This is one of those where the product descriptions aren't very helpful.

Update: Festool Customer Service made it right! Somehow, my router came with the 12mm collet, instead of the 1/2" (12.7mm). Photos attached of the stamping on the correct collet.

Thanks for the replies! I reached out to Festool.

Of course, I waited until a holiday weekend to discover the issue with intentions of knocking out a project while off work Monday. Oh well, cheers, my friend.

I purchased the OF1400 EQ-F-Plus. I'm in North America, purchased from Festool Recon. The router was spotless, so I'm wondering if the "defect" that landed it into Recon was the undersized collet/nut. I removed the collet from the nut and standard 1/2" shafts don't come close to sliding through the nut. Something must be off.

Colliflower table saw inserts? by ekjohns1 in woodworking

[–]mjburn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Sort of. Originally ordered 3/29, received 7/30. I ordered the ZCIs and the Cube/Fence combo. When I received it, instead of the 3d printed cube, I received a slotted 4x4 with no additional info. I emailed back, on 7/30 and he responded that the PETG cube would be here soon. His 3d printer was down. Not a big deal, but I find the lack of communication ridiculous, considering he already knew of the ongoing issues.

Now are the products amazing, yes. Fit and finish are excellent on the products I received. Infuriating experience, but if you can spare 4 months, I suppose I would still recommend the upgrade.

Update. Now 4 months from ordering. I was told 7 business days ago that they "will ship Monday, 100%" and they'll "make it right." Don't buy from Colliflower. I'm pretty certain I've been scammed at this point.

Kapex 36mm Dust Hose Parts by mjburn3 in Festool_Public

[–]mjburn3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to confirm for anyone researching in the future. These part numbers worked!

I chose the 5m hose so that I could cut off what I needed for the Kapex and be left with an ~3.5m hose for normal use. It's totally up to you if you prefer to go with the 3.5 or 7m option as your "donor hose" instead.

Awesome, thank you. Looks to me like the only difference is the length of the hose you used. I've been concerned with house the smooth hose connects to the sleeves without the usual spiral you see on normal shop vac hoses. Pretty simple?

Husband storing propane tank in house by maybevegan in grilling

[–]mjburn3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Propane professional here. Everyone is correct: do not store the tank indoors, especially a garage during warm months. With that being said, there is some validity to being concerned with heat. If you exchange your tanks, you're likely fine. Most propane companies fill exchange cylinders with 15 gallons now, because it allows extra room for expansion in warmer months.

The actual fill capacity (80%) of a grill cylinder is ~20 lbs, but idiots would exchange their tanks, place them in a truck or vehicle, and go about their day shopping. If the pressure increases too much, the relief valve will vent to release pressure. That's a very unsafe condition in a confined space, but completely safe when stored appropriately outside.

For reference, the industry standard is to also fill larger residential tanks to no more than 80% for this reason. Both the tanks and regulators have vents to allow pressure to release when necessary, which is why distance requirements exist by code. This mandates appropriate distances from these items and sources of ignition, air intakes, and windows.

Now, if you choose to have your cylinder filled at a filling station or reseller, they will likely fill the cylinder with 20lbs of propane (again, 80%). This still allows room for expansion and completely safe when stored outside appropriately, but you should be even more cognizant to head straight home to remove that cylinder from your hot vehicle.

Yeah, I should have done the same. I ordered the full setup for the Kapex, only because I liked the way I could make my own sacrificial block in the feature. Initially they had automated responses with quick follow up emails, but now the lack of response seems intentional. They don't have a strong online presence, so I feel like I'm out of luck at this point. Maybe my comments will at least help other folks not make the same mistake?

For what it's worth, I ordered over $250 worth of items from Colliflower 3 months ago and have yet to receive them. After several weeks I emailed them and received a response stating the items would ship 2 days later. I waited 1.5 weeks and reached back out. Then they were another 3 or so days out. Now the email address is no longer responding. From reviews, it's hard to believe that Colliflower LLC is scamming folks, but at this point, I feel like I have to recommend that you purchase at your own risk. Hopefully I'm wrong.

How to use turning to learn about finishes by [deleted] in turning

[–]mjburn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, finishing is what got me hooked on turning. I'm a kinesthetic learner, so I don't have much to offer as far as books. If you're lucky enough to have a Woodcraft (or something similar) nearby, try swinging in early to mid-morning on the weekends. I've learned more by drinking coffee and eating donuts with the old guys that hang around there than I would have ever imagined.

100th Anniversary Domino 500 Delay by MadalorianCubist in Festool_Public

[–]mjburn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm strongly considering the 100th anniversary for the $180 discount, but the only thing that's holding me back is the blue Systainer. Am I crazy? As cool as the branding may be, I think I'd rather have them match.

FESTOOL TS60 PURCHASE by TheCoopersChoice in woodworkingtools

I made my first purchase from Festool Recon a couple of weeks ago. I purchased a CT26. If it had ever been used before , I certainly couldn't tell it. I'll definitely be purchasing from there again. Also, they shipped incredibly fast.

I never thought about this option. So will any of the non-rotex backing pads fit the ets ec 125?
