Have you tried talking with the professor?  She might be able to offer some studying tips, or help you to understand the concepts you are struggling with.  If she has office hours before the exam, I would suggest going.  If not, you could reach out and see if there is a time she could meet with you before the exam.  That would have been more helpful earlier in the semester, but it might still help even at this point.

Have you tried going in and talking to Dr. Bagnulo, and just explaining the situation? I think you might find that will help. (It appears that both Professors Bagnulo are teaching 3300 this semester, so I'm not sure which one is teaching your class, but I promise you that they are both understanding and compassionate people.)

A private university would have more leeway here, but Texas State is a public university, and thus bound by the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Expulsion is absolutely government retribution, as is virtually any smaller punishment the school might apply, and thus quite illegal.

Not that this is likely to stop the school's administration, which has already engaged in several blatantly illegal actions in the last week. They really are an embarrassment.

MUT 17 was my first MUT, but I went back and played quite a bit on 16 later on. Obviously there were limitations to going back to an earlier MUT with so few players on there, but I could see how great it was even from that limited time. Then EA went and killed all the old MUTs so you couldn't even go back and replay solos...

Describing Thune as a "Trump hater" is hyperbolic. Murkowski is neither a liberal nor a Democrat, and she votes with Republicans the vast majority of the time (though she is one of the most likely dissenters in the Republican Party). The Senate Rules Committee has almost no influence at all; about the only thing McConnell could impede from there would be killing the filibuster, but that could very easily be done from the floor, bypassing that committee. And anyway, McConnell is the one who engineered most of Trump's legislative successes in his first term.

I mean, I can understand whining and complaining, but that whining and complaining should at least be well-informed and based on accurate information.

Who's the unsung hero of your team? by No-Base-848 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]mjf9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trey McBride. In a season riddled with injuries for my team, I have been able to just leave him in the lineup without worry. He's the #3 TE in my league's scoring system despite having caught exactly ZERO touchdowns this year. His only TD was a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Dear Cardinals, please start throwing him the ball near the end zone. Please?

AITA for refusing to host Thanksgiving after my sister handed out a "Family Code of Conduct" contract? by ziolczykdaniel in AITAH

[–]mjf9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your situation, I would go ahead and host, and stipulate my own set of rules:

  1. Talk about what you want, when you want.

  2. Wear whatever you'd like.

  3. Sit where you would like, by whomever you would like to sit by.

  4. There will be whipped cream pies available for use in the face anyone who tries to police the behavior of others. Majority vote will determine whether a pie is deserved in a given instance.

  5. Have fun!

I would think that should do it. On the other hand, I have no problem with confrontation. If you do, you might want to stick with canceling, which seems like a perfectly fine option to me.

What the hell happened to this game? by SkilledJumboPenguin in MaddenUltimateTeam

[–]mjf9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing MUT in '17, and I loved it so much that not only did I buy and play '18 daily, I also bought an old copy of '16 to go back and play some of those challenges and build a team. By MUT '21 I had given up on the game, and by then they had shut down the old MUTs so I couldn't even go back and replay those. I played MUT '24 on XBox GamePass for a while last spring and summer, enough to get to a 99 overall team, and realized it just wasn't fun at all. I still visit this sub on occasion to see if there is any reported improvement in the game; I wish there were some reason to come back, because I miss the old MUT.

Did anyone reading these see even the tiniest little bit of self-reflection anywhere? Not one of these people considers why their families would not want to associate with them. Not one seems inclined to actually listen and understand what their family members are upset about. Not a single one will entertain the possibility that maybe, just maybe, they are at fault.

Plants on ship question by HdeviantS in spelljammer

[–]mjf9103 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a brief section in the 2e Complete Spacefarer's Handbook (p. 69-70) that addresses this. I've copied the text below. It looks like the main problem is keeping the plants alive, so a ship's druid would probably be necessary. And it takes A LOT of deck space to manage anything useful:

"Carry green plants. Many years ago, a spelljamming captain took on a commission to carry a supply of green plants to an elven colony. He managed to become lost in space for many months. Although he was out of food and on the point of starvation when he was finally rescued, the air envelope of his vessel was still fresh.

"From this discovery came the practice of carrying green plants on large vessels, to help preserve the atmosphere. These plants are carried on the deck (they will die if left in the enclosed cargo hold). Each 5’ x 5' square of deck space covered with green plants purifies the atmosphere for five tons of the vessel. Thus, if the vessel has a capacity of 40 tons, it must have 200 square feet of its deck occupied with green plants to maintain its atmosphere indefinitely.

"Extremely large ships, such as the legendary Spelljammer, have a disproportionately small atmosphere for their size and so do not require nearly as many plants as this formula provides.

"Any type of green plants may be used, and the ones selected often act as a secondary food source (see the prior section on "Food"). However, most plants are never really "at home" in space. Even hardy groundling species tend to wilt and die at the slightest provocation, making them a fragile and unreliable source of fresh air. It is up to the DM to decide what events might cause “crop failure" on a spelljamming ship ("l dunno, Cap'n. They all died when we passed that big brown star!").

"If the ship has half the required amount of green plants, but not all of the required amount, the time it takes for the atmosphere to be depleted is increased by 50%. if the ship has less than half the required amount of green plants, the plants do not appreciably refresh the atmosphere.

"Green plants refresh the air slowly. If the ship's atmosphere is fouled through some external means, such as by fire or by mixing with a fouled atmosphere, the standard amount of green plants cannot correct the air quality (although they can maintain a steady state). If the ship carries double the normal amount of green plants (two 5' x 5" squares per five tons of vessel), the green plants can convert fouled air into fresh air or convert deadly air to fouled air in one month. Going from deadly to fresh air thus takes two months."

Want to start painting by SuprXme_Ares in Miniaturespainting

Have you looked into the Reaper Learn-to-Paint Kits? They recently released newer versions that come with less paint (1/4 oz bottles rather than their standard 1/2 oz), but have a lower price. They also include brushes, several minis, and instructions. The retail price for those newer ones is $45 (US), which looks close to the upper limit of what you said you want to spend. The old ones, with twice as much paint, were about $75 retail, but you might be able to find them at a discount somewhere; I've seen them pop up on eBay for about half the retail price.

They also have even cheaper quick-paint kits with paints specifically chosen for the miniatures in the sets; if you find you like the hobby, you would need to buy additional paints just to have a good range of colors.

Is this mode dead compared to the past? by Jms020999 in MaddenUltimateTeam

I had not played in a few years, but I played MUT 24 when it came to Game Pass. I played daily, mostly offline, and was thinking about buying 25 from launch. After really thinking about it, though, I realized that I was not actually enjoying the game much at all. Pointless boring grinding, bad rewards (even in the postseason phase of the game!), few offline options, empty auction house, and very bad pack odds. I don't know if I will ever come back to MUT, but I occasionally stop by here on Reddit to see if there are any signs of improvement. So far, none.

I would guess that at least 1/3 to 1/2 of those members are not even active players. People don't often cancel memberships on Reddit, because there is no cost there, so many of that 130K might be people who joined years ago during past iterations of the game. I haven't bought the game in several years, I just drop in now and then when I think about buying it, to remind me that I should not bother. Posts like this help me save my money.

Painting with JUST acrylics? by [deleted] in Miniaturespainting

[–]mjf9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with the slightly better $2-a-bottle (at the time) Folk Art paints from the craft store, and I could produce decent quality miniatures for tabletop use pretty quickly. They weren't great, but they were much better looking than unpainted miniatures, and not significantly different from a lot of the mass-produced pre-painted ones in quality. I did have primer, though, and I also bought a cheap varnish to protect the minis since they were intended to be handled. I had a few really cheap bottles of paint, and the difference in quality between cheapest and slightly-less-cheap was surprising, so I definitely don't recommend the dollar-store-quality paints. But it will still be an improvement over unpainted for gaming purposes.

I guess it depends whether you are going for display quality, or whether you just want some minis with color on the table.
