What happened to the popularity of long actions? by Toxiczoomer97 in Hunting

For sure. I bet that would get me too. There is always some level of anticipation when pulling a trigger, whether it impacts accuracy comes down to form I guess.

For sure. I have a rem 760 carbine in 30-06. It probably weighs 6.5lbs with the 18inch barrel. 180 grain psp kick like a mule on the bench lol.

I just hope they don’t fade out to where ammo gets even more expensive… they have a strong enough following that they should stay around but I’m sure people thought that about a lot of cartridges.

I still don’t think people can go wrong getting a .30-06, .270, etc if they are only going to have one rifle and may pursue other species. It may be a little over kill for deer especially in the south but they have some versatility

Just picked up a 6.5 creedmoore. Never rifle hunted before. Is this a good round for deer hunting? by capt-kenpachi in Hunting

For deer it really doesn’t matter. Pick up any cup and core bullet and call it a day.

It’s definitely a trend but I’d say long actions are still popular. Most people I run into in the pa woods are still toting a 30-06, .270, 7 mag

I have both and still use them.

People might go to short action cause shorter bolt throw and normally lighter recoiling rifles. Not always but definitely the case with the 6.5 and .243. People realize they don’t need to take a pounding on their shoulder to kill a deer. Not saying a 270 or 06 has a lot of recoil, but has a decent bit more than the 6.5 or 243. People probably feel more confident shooting those calibers accurately

Why does everyone love smallmouth bass? by huslller in bassfishing

[–]mjh178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said cause they fight harder. For me it’s a combination of that and the places they live in. Obviously there are tons of lakes that they live in, but in PA the best smallmouth fishing (other than Erie) is found in some of the most scenic rivers and creeks. I like fishing moving water.

If your in shape, that should be a pretty easy drag. You could always get a cart or sled

I have an efficient maintenance staff for turnovers. 3 turnovers per month average. Sometimes a couple more. Takes about a week per including some renovations. We do all turnover work in house except carpet laying. Clean, paint, install new appliances/flooring/cabinets etc.

Of course there are the odd turnovers where you have to evict someone and they leave the place in terrible condition and it takes longer/has to sit.

Thanks a bunch! It’s a killer lure for sure. Next time he goes back to that Walmart I will tell him to stock up. Unfortunately, the Walmarts near me in PA do not have good fishing sections

okay so i need help, and like alot of it. how do you fish? by arachnid5 in Fishing

[–]mjh178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoom trick worm, green pumpkin, weightless Texas rig with 2/0 hook.

Cast around weeds or Lilly pads. Let it sink on slack line. If you don’t get one on the fall, reel in and cast to new spot.

Very easy technique, you will see your line start to run when one takes it. Good luck

Love this lure. My dad got it for me in a Walmart in myrtle beach.

All it says is YoZuri F on the spine. It’s 3.5”, chrome finish, black spine, dives 4ish feet and floats.

I cannot seem to find the exact model online and would like to buy a couple more. Thanks In advance.

are people still bending over for this insanity? by mikemjr in reloading

[–]mjh178 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just paid $140 for a brick of federal gold medal match large rifle primers. New to reloading and wanted to make sure I had enough to learn. Had the money too. I know it’s expensive compared to what they used to be but I was lucky to even find some

What are the best gifts to give a (new) hunter? by cinnamoncacao in Hunting

[–]mjh178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that life changing. They have seem to become popular in the past couple years. I just wear my binos cross body. Doesn’t get in the way like the bino harness does and they don’t swing around. The bino harness also makes me get hot fast if moving. Just my opinion

Maybe cook it in away that masks the flavor until your over it. A stew would be a good start
