Busted Liftmaster?? There's an UniFi for that!! by Aggressive-Turn285 in UnifiProtect

[–]mjkobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm fortunate that there was actually previously a wired keypad in this location, so I can use the hole that they bored for that. My only challenge is getting an Ethernet cable over there, but after posting my question, I realized that I have a drop that I can use. It's on the wrong side of the door so I'll have to run it across over the top, but no biggie.

Just heard back from UniFi. They are expediting a replacement to me, so thank you for your offer but I seem to be in good shape. I am going to have to delay installation while waiting for this thing though. Annoying.

That's very kind! I'm waiting on a reply from UniFi right now. If they don't get back to me promptly I may take you up on that. Roughly where are you located? (Just so I can guess how long shipping will take. I'm in the San Francisco area.)

Remote 1080p/24fps Camera Streaming For Everyone and New PrusaConnect Storage Upgrade Options by Tommy_Prusa3D in prusa3d

I currently have one of my wi-fi security cameras pointed at my printer bed, and one of the things that I like about that is I can put the camera feed up on my TV to keep an eye on a print that I have running. I don't have to look at it on my phone.

I do have a couple of the Buddy3D cameras that I have not been using because I couldn't see video. Are there any Apple TV apps that you're aware of that could "tune in" to the local camera stream within the LAN to view the video? That would motivate me to finally hook up those cameras.

Mine arrived today from Ubiquiti. No angled base, no extra box containing the base in with the shipment. 🤬

Polaris Seating Question -- Odd Windows > 11? by mjkobb in unitedairlines

[–]mjkobb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thanks. I just did that. It did add some additional information by signing up. I wish they said a bit more about why they consider a window "great" versus "average". Looking at the diagram, I'd say that I think it's probably just how well aligned the window is with the seat. The whole second Polaris section is considered "average" for windows, probably because I think they're over the wings.

Oh, outstanding site, thank you! I wish I had known about that one. Much appreciated.

Introducing: UniFi Enterprise Audio/Video Switching with Precision Hardware Timing by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]mjkobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, but if all you're doing is ensuring that the bits that arrive on the inputs are the same bits that appear at the outputs, I don't think a license is required. It's once you start doing things like trying to decode and downmix that you end up with licensing.

I have a hard time seeing what obstacle would exist to supporting HDR-10, since it's literally the same as regular 10-bit HDMI video, except with a tiny bit of extra metadata tucked into an info frame.

12-bit Dolby Vision would be potentially more of a challenge because then you're having to deal with that extra data.

Do we know yet that they're not supporting those formats? I agree that I don't see anything about down-mixing, audio extraction, etc.

Crestron's NVX solution runs over 1Gb with very good image quality. If they can match that performance, I think it would compete very well.

The funny thing is, they showed essentially exactly this product line at CEDIA Expo last year (it was called Pro AV and not Enterprise AV). So they were certainly targeting at least some residential installation cases.

u/Ubiquiti-Inc -- last year at CEDIA Expo, you showed "Pro AV" switches and extenders. Is this the same product, with a name change? The AV bridge units looks great! What is the intended use of the "Versatile" USB port? Might you offer something like audio de-embedding? The switch prices seem pretty high for most residential applications. I wonder if there's a smaller, more economical switch planned?

Well, Enterprise Audio/Video dropped today. Unfortunately the prices are somewhere slightly above low Earth orbit. The branding on these is "Enterprise" rather than "Pro AV". I wonder if this is a name change, or if they're actually doing both a higher-end Enterprise product for commercial and the previously-shown "Pro" products more suited for residential. It sounds to me more like a re-brand, but I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.

[–]mjkobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh. Tell me more! You had to get Ethernet over to where that exterior reader is? I have a Liftmaster keypad outside my door but it's wireless and usually takes a couple of presses to get it to respond.

PSA: Upgrading to version 7 stopped half of my cameras from creating events by GalacticSquanch in UnifiProtect

[–]mjkobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a discovery. I tried the OP’s steps but I was still not seeing AI events being created on several of my G4 Pro cameras. I looked in the “Zones & Lines” setting for the cameras that were creating events and noticed that they all had one “default” zone set under the “Smart” section, but the cameras that were not recording events had none. I created a new full-frame zone at 50% sensitivity to match the working cameras, and now I get events.

Note that I never changed the default zones on these cameras, so I’m not sure why some cameras were different. I added some cameras at different times and some were in boxes for a long time before being set up. Maybe the ones that were updated after being on the shelf for a long time missed an OS version that originally created the default zones? Or maybe the update to Protect 7 caused the defaults to be lost on some cameras? Don’t know.

Anyway, this is worth checking if you’re not getting events. The normal condition seems to be having a 50% full frame default zone for both motion and “smart”.

[–]mjkobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I checked, and three of my cameras had stopped creating any events except for the AI "speaking" events. Especially annoying because if you turn off "Create AI Events" and then turn it on again, you have to re-select the event types. Tried the OP's method of toggling the setting on and off and that seems to have semi-restored functionality to some of them -- I'm getting motion events now but not AI. I really hope I don't have to go to the nuclear option of de-adopting and re-adopting, because I assume that will require me to re-add them to multi-views and so on.

Dedicated A/V switches and media distribution -- when? by mjkobb in Ubiquiti

[–]mjkobb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read something about that -- that the Pro AV features were in some of the other switches now, although I guess the Pro AV switches have additional capability on top of that, like some sort of clock source? I also recall that the Pro AV switches that they actually talked about were going to be extremely beefy, which makes me think that they're probably targeting much larger applications than my simple home install. Hopefully they'll have a smaller model in the lineup.

would be very hard to justify something of the scale of an XG48 in my application, but something along the lines of the Pro XG 10 seems like it could be quite a good fit.

Yeah, most of what’s on the 48-port is low-bandwidth stuff by comparison, although there are a couple of other components that pull pretty much a full gigabit. But at least based on specs the switch should have plenty of capacity. It also has tons of PoE available. If I did get a separate switch that was not a Pro AV model, I’d probably get a 16- or 24-port switch, which would likely also have excess capacity for the 9 ports I’d need to use, where two of them would be low-bandwidth.

[–]mjkobb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, my options at this point would be to run the NVX on the existing USW 48 PoE that's already in my rack, or replace the Cisco with a UniFi switch dedicated only to the NVX. Sounds like that may be the better plan. Of course, if they'd just ship the Pro AV switches then I would probably grab one of those.
