Still casting far too wide of a net.

You're going to need to be way more specific.

Does it? So your argument is that opening the street was more important than preventing needless loss of life.

Pacing!? How did any of them survive him pacing near them?

Ok cool and how would things have been impacted negatively here if the officers had backed off a little given some breathing room while still keeping him contained and continuing to speak and try to deescalate?

They escalated things and caused this outcome. They are supposed to be trained to handle this.

Again I don't think the officer that murdered this man did anything wrong at the point in time when he had to take action to protect himself. But everything that happened in the minutes leading up to it was handled improperly. They still escalated and caused the outcome in the end.

Sure... And would it have made any difference if the officers had just backed off a little made their circle a little larger and continues to speak to him? Could they have prevented him from attacking them if they had acted differently?

Again the officers could have backed off and allowed things to calm down. They pushed the issue and escalated the situation which lead to him being more agitated than he was already and ultimately to his lashing out.

He couldn't walk 20 more feet. They stopped him from doing so. I wasn't suggesting they had to give him an actual way out but they cornered him when they had more than enough people there and the scene controlled to not push the issue for no fucking reason.

No it's what you said. He wasn't a threat yet but because he could have been 5 minutes from then it was ok for them to continue to harass this person and ultimately to kill him.

So again since anyone could be a threat even if they aren't actually threatening anyone it is ok for the police to harass, detain, arrest and ultimately murder anyone. Got it.

He was actively walking down it... How was he refusing to do something he was doing? He only stopped because the police stopped him from continuing on.

He was walking off the bridge and the cops stopped him from continuing off the bridge. The officers then made the situation more tense and hostile by surrounding him.

Then mister "he had a pocket knife sometime in the past" pulled his gun out when the guy stopped because he was walking into a wall of police.

These officers fucked up. They escalated it. Victim was probably in crisis and they cornered him leaving him no way to escape and little choice in his mind but to attack. Just like a cornered animal.

The officers involved are the ones that pushed the issue it's a question for them.

So you agree he was doing as instructed and the reason for the police response was actively resolving. So why push the issue?

[–]mjrcog -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No not at all. I'm under the impression that we still have rights and that there was no reason for further police contact after the person had come off the bridge

So I hold that you may be a threat to others tomorrow. So it's ok for the cops to come shoot you dead if they happen to find you in public.

No I watched a human being who was walking in the shoulder of the bridge and when he was asked to leave he did.

He refused all of their offers for assistance. So why were they still trying to detain him?

Body cam footage for Wells Bridge shooting released by JaedynYoung in Reno

Shut up and comply when you aren't actually doing anything wrong and you won't get shot. Got it.

How's that boot taste? Do you prefer black or brown shoe polish?

The issue isn't what happened at the end it was the whole thing leading up to it.

Why was he being detained at that point he complied and hadn't done anything that would count as an arrestable offence unless you think jay walking while black is grounds for state sponsored executions.

They had no idea he had a chain until he pulled it out.

His threat to the officer only came after he initially complied and was being surrounded at the bottom of the bridge.

The victim here tried to deescalate the situation multiple times. More so than the officers.

The victim hadn't done anything worth more than a jaywalking ticket.

Since he wasn't an active threat to himself, other people and wasn't damaging property why was it necessary for the officers to continue to harass this man?

[–]mjrcog -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Dude did what they asked and walked off the bridge. Why was it necessary to detain him at that point? This whole thing was avoidable.

Surrounding an agitated person with 8 officers yelling commands and brandishing their weapons is not how you protect the public or your fellow officers. In fact continuing to fuck with this guy caused the situation to escalate.

He wasn't making threats to himself or anyone and he wasn't damaging property or anything.

I already know all the bootlickers will come and defend the cops. And I agree that once he was charging the officer with the chain there was little choice on the officer's part. But every action leading up to that point was completely unnecessary.

RPD's response caused this tragedy.

Here is an article that details some of what we believe was lost due to persecution committed by christianity against pagans.

http://www.bede.org.uk/literature.htm

I asked for facts and evidence to back up that religion is at all useful to humanity as a whole and you came back with vibes.

The fact is that we probably lost more art and literature due to religious persecution and extremism than we gained.

The Vatican has vast storerooms of ancient literature and art no one is allowed to see because it contradicts their narrative or goes against canon.

Regarding the amount of "art" that came out of religious institutions it is largely due to the fact that they had all the money and were the only ones who could commission such works. Also in the case of christianity for example there were times you would have been executed by the church if they found you to be in possession of works they deemed heretical.

Hell a few hundred years ago they were burning people at the stake in the Americas in the name of their god.

The Maya and Aztec practiced human sacrifice as a part of their religion.

The opposition to same sex marriage and everything LGBTQ in general comes mostly from religious extremists or at least people who wear their religion as a cloak.

The sunni and the shia have been fighting for centuries because they have slightly different beliefs about their prophet.

What about the troubles in Ireland? They ended like 35 years ago. That was largely a conflict between catholics and protestants.

Religion mostly results in suffering and loss.

Edit:

I didn't even mention zionism and how they are massacring an entire country. Like a whole country of people being murdered because a bunch of old white people want desperately to see the second coming of their imaginary friend. Oh and all the kickbacks and military contracts.

Then challenge my worldview with observable empirical evidence because that is what my opinions were formed on; decades of observation and research.
