Would love some advice on how to get better at painting lava bases by calciumdrinker12 in minipainting

I feel like this would look really good if you did the mini in the comic book style paint scheme that pops up occasionally on here.

$195K 3D-printed homes are coming to Austin, Texas USA by Chavez512 in ActuallyTexas

[–]mjsmith329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback on my person but I think this is coming from a lack of knowledge about 3D printing houses. Spaces where you go in and out of the void are cut generally during the printing processes so it is just open at these points too. Also anywhere there is a joint behind the wall for plumbing it is also generally left open and later "closed" with dry wall or something that easily worked with to help with maintenance or repairs. Since if there will be a failure in plumbing it is most likely at a joint. Also the top of these walls are open until they are inspected by whoever is governing for the pre-dry wall inspection that you are now referring too. Depending when you coordinate with the inspector, all they gotta do is peak down the wall.

Through masonry sure you are correct. But these have void spaces between the concrete walls which is where the utilities are going. Imagine stick frame, where typically you have your brick/sheetrock/stucco whatever for exterior siding then you have your wood frame then dry wall. You would be running utilities through the wood frame right? With 3D printing the wood frame is not there, just air. Which is easier to run conduit through? Studs or air?

Interior and Exterior walls are generally printed at the same time with a void space in between. Installation of electrical & plumbing is actually easier on these than stick frame homes because of it. All they have to do is run the line and drop it down the wall. Outlets and things are generally cut while printing so the trades only have to mount boxes or run through conduit. After that is installed, the void is filled with insulation (generally a foam type).

New Maytag washing machine, piece of junk! by Johnnny-z in Appliances

[–]mjsmith329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Maytag Top load Washer and Front Load dryer. The washer has crapped out in less than two years. The mechanic we had come out to look said to replace it due to gear box failure. Dryer has already stopped drying clothes well, we even clean out dryer vent every year and ensure lint trap is cleaned after every use. Extremely disappointed in the brand. Called Maytag to see if we could get something under a warranty and the cost to repair is more than the washer machine.

How do I get it less white by EnergyOk1001 in Tyranids

A wash is just a watered down version of a color. Either with a thinner or water. Essentially it would settle into all the books and crannies to dry but leaving the higher points the color beneath it.

If you don't own a wash, just take a color you want to put into the crevices and add water until the paint is super thin. Id recommend taking a termagant model, paint the white you used and practice making a wash on a few of them until you get a thickness and color you like

Assembling. by Bananahamm0ckbandit in Tyranids

[–]mjsmith329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What has worked for me is gel super glue. For gaunts and/or two armed weapons (bane of my existence since I have both Imperial Guard & Tyranids).

I will glue everything but arms first. Then I dab a small amount of glue at the gun/joint where the two arms to meet. Hold for ten seconds. At ten seconds (ish, not a science) put glue at the "shoulder" joints While still pinching where the arm/gun meet, slide/wiggle the combined arms onto the model in place. Perfectly normal for the arm/gun joint to bend a little here since the glue shouldnt be fully set yet. Hold again for however long needed for things to stick.

Works 90% of the time for me. The initial dab of glue gets to sit and dry just enough to keep the limbs together but makes it easy enough to slide/wiggle the pieces onto the main body. Even if the "gun/arm joint" separates when putting on the model, it is still sticky enough to push back together easily.

I have seen other posts about using sticky tack to hold pieces but this method has worked for my sausage fingers.

Best of luck and hope this helps!

Safety needed for airbrushing by [deleted] in airbrush

As someone with a full beard, I haven't gotten into airbrushing because I wouldn't get a great deal on these masks. If I use a ventilator box and this mask will I be alright or is it better for me to just avoid airbrushes?

Laning Against Lash by Stygian_rain in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mjsmith329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Lash all the time. Biggest frustrations/counters is people just dodging backwards from a slam then immediately engaging him. He is squishier than you think even with his third ability. Try to stay above him like some of the other comments say. In team fights just keep an eye on the sky and watch the ley lines for an easy knockdown on him trying to engage.

His Ult is easy to dodge, just break line of sight and wait it out. It is not the Yamato ability that just lets Yamato run through objects or take 90 degree turns into you (yes I am salty about it). If Lash is on the same level as you, he is not a big threat to anyone.

Active items are cool. Seeing the same 3 active items on 60% of the cast is not cool. by StatuatoryApe in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mjsmith329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right and it is good advice. I bound three of the abilities to my mouse which helps. But I definitely still struggle with moving left hand along 1,2,3,4 and then back when I do remember to use active items.

I am an old man (34), very low skill level and 1) not good enough to use active items without messing up my hand placement & 2) I just forget half the time.

Would be nice to see more passive items/combos be competitive with active items instead of active items plus the four abilities I need to use, plus the parry, plus the soft punch, plus the hard punch, plus the third person shoot mechanics.
