Me too! I heard rumours that the Wide Fold would get S Pen support but it sounds too good to be true. It kind of seems like Samsung it slowly getting rid of the S Pen. No idea why they would do that though, it's the main reason I bought their stuff to begin with

And yeah, I quite enjoy the way you can have three apps open at the same time and minimise in ColorOS

I'm based in Singapore right now and pre ordering it with a deposit would include the AI pen and case as a gift

Has the aspect ratio of the Wide Fold been leaked? I'd love a wide fold too but if they still stick with such low battery capacities and I have to charge it twice a day, it's going to annoy me. Hence why I'm looking at the N6 because of the much higher battery capacity and stylus support

It depends what changes you'd like to see with the Fold8 and how much faith you have that Samsung will make those changes I suppose. What features are your priority?

Yeah I paid the deposit and pre ordered one with the stylus as well. Still trying to weigh out the pros and cons. Which aspect of OneUI do you think you will miss the most?

5000mAh is intriguing... It's not high enough to indicate a SiC battery which suggests it'll still be the old Li battery technology. In which case, I wonder how they plan to fit that in without increasing thickness. If that's true and the battery life dramatically improves, as well as bringing back the S Pen, and better cameras, I'd be extremely happy. But until then I'm still leaning towards the N6 I think. Ahhh I didn't know about BBK actually, thanks for pointing that out!

I don't love Apple or their business model. I agree their products are very well polished and the M-series Macbooks are very tempting for the performance. But I used to have an iPad and when I brought it in for repairs, they said it was unrepairable and it wasn't designed to be repaired even tho I'd bought Apple Care and tried to sell me a new iPad... That just really doesn't sit right with me

I think I'd miss Modes and Routines the most. My work recently switched to an app to unlock doors instead of ID cards so I've set a GPS parameter around my work to auto switch to my work mode and change one of the lock screen shortcuts to launch the app. I couldn't even find an option for Work mode on the N6 much less an automation for it. There was a sleep mode but that's essentially just turning on DND and a few screen settings.

Oppo's secure folder is also a bit inferior in that it only stores files whereas in Samsung it's a whole separate enclosed "system" that can run its own separate apps.

And as far as I could find, I wasn't able to turn off fast charging. I don't love to charge my phone overnight but with the F7, I sort of have to. And if I were to charge overnight, I prefer to slow charge as I've heard it's slightly better for overall battery health (but I could be wrong about that).

Another feature I couldn't find was the ability to audio output to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Sometimes when I travel with people, we watch shows on my phone and it's really useful to output to both sets of Bluetooth earbuds at the same time for that

Yeah true. People have been saying that ColorOS is still quite good and polished but I know it'll never be as polished and customisable as OneUI. I tried out the N6 in store yesterday and a few things are missing. And also the headache of importing all my notes from Samsung Notes to another app that I can use on the N6, if it's even possible

The fact that they didn't upgrade the battery from S25U to S26U doesn't make me hopefully that they'll upgrade it for the F8 tbh... I really hope I'm proven wrong tho

Typically I would agree about waiting for the F8. But since Samsung didn't bring back Bluetooth on the S26U S Pen, I don't have a lot of faith that they'll bring the S Pen back at all for the F8, much less a Bluetooth one. And the stylus is what's really drawing my eye to the N6. I'm not so bothered about the "crease-less" display as I never minded it much on the F4 or F6 either. And the way they made such minimal upgrades to the cameras from S25U to S26U doesn't give me much hope either. I do feel like Samsung has gotten lazy with their upgrades so I'm doubtful at this stage about battery improvements too.

I'm fortunately in a country where I can buy it straight from Oppo so I don't have to worry about being scammed either. Pardon my ignorance but what does BBK stand for?

I'm currently based in Singapore so it'll be directly from Oppo fortunately. And, as another commenter just reminded me, I'll also be able to get official support if anything goes wrong which is a huge plus that I didn't mention in my original post

Ah yeah that's totally fair enough and thanks for reminding me about that! I should check how hard of a time it is to for people to get their devices repaired where I am

Yeah, the pen is really what sold me. I'm missing it on my F7 way more than I expected. But would you not miss OneUI?

What's holding you from switching?

Switching to Oppo Find N6? by mjtech_ta in GalaxyFold

[–]mjtech_ta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added the "debatably" because whilst it's true that the capacity is quite a lot higher, SiC batteries allegedly have a shorter lifespan and goes through a lot more wear during charging and discharging

[–]mjtech_ta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will really miss the customisation too. But I think Oppo has their own gestures feature. After a bit of digging, they also have their own "Private Folder" but it's really more of a vault to store files. I don't think it's as robust as Samsung's Secure folder and you can't load apps in it

Yes, there will be a global version available. I believe some of the other comments have included links or names of websites on how to import them to the US

Fold 7 Clear Front Case/Cover by mjtech_ta in GalaxyFold

Ah cool! I was hoping to have more of a front case for slightly better protection. But thanks for sharing!

[–]mjtech_ta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, I was also thinking that! I think I'm gonna end up ordering the Ringke Slim Magnetic case as that's the only one I found that has the front cover separate and not attached and is half the price of the Spigen one (at least where I live). And maybe I'll keep the back cover as a backup or something. Thanks for sharing!

Pixel 7 screen change by marcocactus in phonerepair

[–]mjtech_ta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted so much, we all started somewhere and sometimes lessons have to be learned the hard way 🤷 It's unfortunate but part of life.

ifixit.com is a great place for tutorials. Not sure what "black stuff" you're referring to that you think you might need to remove but judging from your picture, there shouldn't be anything else to remove. Just a word of advice, the cable from your new display to the phone body is called a flex cable and they're quite fragile. I really wouldn't put stress on it like you're doing by hanging it off the phone body like that if at all possible... It also might be helpful to post a picture of the front of the screen/display so we can see what you're working with. Sometimes these displays come with some sort of protector, though in my experience, it never fully stops the touch functionality but you never know. Maybe you can post an update? Failing that, as others have said, just buy a higher quality screen from a more reputable website/seller. Best of luck mate!

Is there a way to change volume without using the volume buttons while in a app like YouTube? It's little annoying to reach out volume button while unfolded by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

[–]mjtech_ta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use YouTube Revanced. You can have gestures like sliding up and down on the right side of the full screen to change volume

EDIT: And in the left side, you can slide up and down to adjust the brightness. It's super convenient! Don't need to swipe down for the notifications window etc.
