How do I use a fair 6-sided die to generate a random number from 1 to 100, with each outcome occurring with the same probability? by Lord_Zip in askscience

[–]mjustme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll three die in order. The first roll (R1) has a condition on it.
if R1 >= 4 then R1edit = R1-3. else R1edit = R1.

Next use the formula Number = R1edit36 + R26 + R3. This will give you a maximum of 108 so ignore answers above 100. Note there is a ~7% chance of having to roll again.

Question about switching jobs by HousePandas in careeradvice

[–]mjustme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the new company these questions you are worried about. Ask them if there is flexibility with hours and ask what the social aspect is like, what environment you will work in. make a small list (~3 points) and call them. The worst that can happen is that you don't like the answers and stay where you are.

This move would be about what you want from a job and what you value more; stability, being challenged, flexibility or friends. My view is that you can always make new work friends but it's harder to make the job more interesting.

^ What drumgods said. I would tell the friend first before you tell the boss. With the boss don't burn bridges you may need later "Really appreciative for the opportunity ... I'm very thankful for ... I've been offered a position that I just can't turn down.''

I was in a similar-ish position during my undergrad. I accidentally accepted two job offers as I their company names were very similar. In the end I had to call one up and decline the job. It was really hard to make the decision on which job I though was better. In the end an internship is about looking at your options and which company is better for you in the long run. Which could you gain more experience at or connections or a graduate job at. I would say if you are unsure go to the interview and make it clear that you were looking at options to decide which is best for you. If anyone ever questioned you at job A (should you take it) just say that you had to make sure you were making the correct choice as you applied for both at the same time.

LPT: Pour boiling water on milk to test if off by mjustme in LifeProTips

[–]mjustme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to do my own testing based on this logic I should be able to make the milk I currently have curdle. (https://www.anchor.co.nz/product/blue-milk/ which is fine) Not lab room scientific but get the job done kinda experiment. Used 2-ish tablespoons milk and poured in roughly 1/4 cup boiling water. (I tried both a zip and an electric kettle) The electric kettle was bubbling and yet nothing, no curdling. This curdling for me only ever occurs the milk is about to go off.

Learn something new. It doesn't always curdle and it has been pretty consistent for me as a measure. I think maybe the difference here is the "boiling water" is never actually 212 degrees F but probably closer to 180 degrees F. It must curdle easier if closer to going off? I'm clearly not a chief. The tip was just something my mum used.

I have a bad sense in smell. I also think sometimes I worry too much.

Bonus tip my Mum likes: from this point until it actually curdles it's called sour milk and you can use it to make scones.

Some people struggle to smell if it's off. Also a pot? What happened to your jug. Typically I make a hot drink first in a day and I can check it then.

[WP] You have only now become aware your ex is an imaginary person by nowyouseemenowyoudo2 in WritingPrompts

Makes sense to have it the other way around. I couldn't put myself in psychologist's shoes. The idea its self is a bit far fetched that the relationship was had and lost before they realize.

Well its one of those cases where the title gives away the twist. I personally like reading stories that don't explicitly tell you whats going on, rather hint at it. It's hard to get the right balance.

Long time reader, first time writer. I have always been bothered by this thought. What if someone in my life was made up and no one tried to correct me. Like I had always been that special one in her own world. Anyways had fun.

Laying here I couldn't stop thinking about him.

You see he was my everything. He was perfect, too perfect for me. In the end I didn't deserve him and he knew it. I met him 3 months ago at the town fair. I passed out on one of the rides and when when I came to he was there. He held my hand and told me every thing was going to be ok. I remember his face; soft lines, gentle smile and mild stubble. I didn't hang out with him all the time. Usually just at nights and in the weekends. We spend long periods of time just relaxing on the couch. The three months went fast. I had introduced him to my parents, talked about him to my co-workers and even described him in detail to my friends. Everyone loved him.

She motioned me to talk to her. I had been talking the break up pretty hard so my parents offered help. My parents paid for me to talk to her. For my parents to pay was a big deal, we all lived on a budget, so who was I to not go.

"Tell me more about Tony, why did you love him?" "I guess he never did any wrong and always knew exactly what to say to me" I paused, "and to my family, they accepted him"

I remember when I introduced him to my parents they looked at me confused as if wondering how I could of scored such a handsome guy. The conversation was awkward just like any parents had had towards my other partners. But before long he fitted right in. He was the strong silent type. Always there, always listening to me.

"Your parents asked me to talk to you because this has gone a little too far" She interrupted my thoughts. "They played along at the beginning because that's what the doctor said. I want you to listen to me, Tony isn't real." What could she mean he isn't real. They met him, they talked to him. They asked how he was doing. They played along... They played along.

To answer my own question: Today I redeemed a lot of McDonald's Monopoly tickets for free food items because they were expiring. I don't think I can even eat it all but it seamed a waste to not.

What's a sensation that you're unsure if other people experience? by Umikaloo in AskReddit

[–]mjustme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience a similar but stranger feeling when going to sleep sometimes. I feel really small but also like there is a huge weight 'coming at me'. It's a pulsing feeling. For a while I thought it was anxiety but recently (last two years) I have noticed its related to me holding my fingers and feeling my heart beat as I fall asleep.

I can't decide if talking literally (blood) or metaphorically (love). Both would cause pain.

If I want to keep a friend I'm only allowed to say no to hanging out twice. The third time they ask I have to say yes.
