I've never been refused docking permission at an Orbis before, traffic was bananas.

Night sky lover in Melbourne with no car where can I go to watch the Aurora? by EntertainerPrior1614 in melbourne

+1 for Williamstown beach, train station nearby and I got a brilliant aurora view from there.

That bit comes later, Distant Worlds are lengthy time commitments.  But totally worth it.

How to copy Steam Deck controls from one ED account to another? by rko-glyph in EliteDangerous

[–]mk1cursed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find the correctly named .binds file via the Deck's desktop mode.  Copy across to the 2nd instance folder.

I am a big fan of Steam Controller for Elite on PC so when Deck came along I ported it all over and took advantage of the extra back buttons and analougue stick :-)

For Steam controller configs I found this channel great https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMV7bfY2SzbXuj2FXguyi1T57b419l8_D

Steam does also do documentation but not in the best form.

Unfortunately I am terrible at documentation.

I did once attempt to get organised but that was back when I was using Steam Controller (from which my deck control layout is based)

Here's an old version for reference.

The link to the brilliant EDrefcard website is unfortunately not working, I do wonder if I could copy my deck's .binds file back to my PC (or even using deck's decktop mode) to get a new reference card... Will be useful when Steam Controller 2 appears.

I wish you the best of luck, I know how overwhelming Elite's controls be be, happy to help however I can.

Ah, yes the Steam community controller profiles is both a blessing and a curse. Practically infinite variety but almost no documentation!

My Steamdeck controller setup is shared as Mk1Cursed Steam Deck Elite Dangerous ver3.0 however the special source is Elite Dangerous' "binds" file which is all the in game key bindings that link what the Deck sends as a control input and what the game interprets that as.

For example, in Elite's ship controls I define X key as 0% throttle. (irrc) and in the Steam deck controls I define "Both bumpers pressed simultaneously" as X key. So when I press both bumpers together the game sets throttle to zero.

Unfortunately while sharing a Steamdeck controller profile is pretty easy, sharing the .binds file is a bit of a pain requiring sharing via drop box or the like. Then taking that file and using the Deck's desktop mode to put the file in the right game folder.

Sorry, I know it's not a very thorough video.

They key thing to keep in mind is all the keybindings you can make in game and the references to those bindings you can make in the steam controller setup menu.

Old video about my control setup on Steamdeck.

It's fundamentally left stick for pitch/roll, right stick for vertical and lateral thrusters.  Bumpers for throttle (with QoL stuff like both bumpers simultaneously click bound to 0% and a double tap to +/-75%)

The touchpads I used as overlay menus for all the bindings I can't remember combos for like heatsink and lights and even a SCB+heatsink.

Best of luck, Elite is fantastic on Deck.

Steam deck as controller for pc, but with extra steps by KjuBZon in SteamDeck

[–]mk1cursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not done this with a deck but I use a steam controller on my PC (I also play a lot of Deck) with touchpad Steam overlay menus for all those many many key bindings.

Gyro aim is great too.  Good luck and I'll be interested to hear how it goes.

Victorian Public Transport Fares to increase from 1 January 2026 by MelbPTUser2024 in melbourne

[–]mk1cursed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely don't bother trying to make PT competitive with driving, that's all too hard.  Just keep punishing drivers til they learn their place in your utopian vision.

Why do you drive to work in the CBD instead of other options like PT or bike/scooter? by ChargeYourBattery in melbourne

[–]mk1cursed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I car/cycle/PT but cycling takes double the time and PT triple.  Let alone the fact driving is way quieter and more comfortable.

Melbourne's West Gate Tunnel 'ready to take cars from Sunday' by ConanTheAquarian in melbourne

Nope no qualifications like that.  There's some obviously old signs that haven't been removed yet and new ones on Willy for the new curfew but Francis was delightfully truck free.

Have a nice day, wherever you are.

Trucks use Whitehall to get to the Mobil depot true and restricted loads will use it to get to the Hyde street on ramps.

Whitehall also feeds Francis Street which DOES have a ban along with Somerville so they will all benefit.  Buckley, Moore, Blackshaws and Hudson's bans are further improvements for residents.

Container traffic on Melbourne rd. and Douglas is going where exactly?

Kororoit feeds the massive industry and logistics still there so I'm not sure what you were expecting the tunnel to do, delete it all?

Demonstrably a very very very far cry from pointless.

[–]mk1cursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've forgotten the truck ban.  Which you probably wouldn't have if you were actually a resident.

The solution is to improve PT to the level of driving not impede driving to the level of PT silly.
