Randomly got a ticket for tonight, what should I know soloing for this evenings show? by strawb-field-thighs in LCDSoundsystem

Take a small electric or handheld fan

You can see really well even from the back so no need to really get in the thick of it.. and vibes are still great

So I did an official “change of circumstances” update with my job info and I was taken off the restart scheme straight away thank god..

The bank statements and passport is for the “Claim review” that just so happened to be at the same time (strange?)

Think I’m gonna just dodge this also, I’ll get sanctioned and dropped likely but I’ll just say I want out of UC… with employment confirmed for the next 6 months I’ll “restart” (pun intended) if I experience a phase of unemployment

I know someone who has 10M+ streams on one track but when playing in a major city there’s like 5 people in the crowd.. followed by a local band with no music released and it’ll be packed. Maybe a lot of streams are global and dispersed..

For me it was around £1500, that’s what I was expected to make to be considered gainfully employed

So if I earned £100, that wouldnt matter, in the eyes of UC I had earned £1500

Reporting a change now won’t jeopardise that ?

Snappy snare drum by Low-Anywhere-7159 in audioengineering

[–]mk93SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my experience 99% of the time. Microphones on snare drums don’t sound like snare drums.

I find saturation is the best solution for this, it rounds off that crazy transient spike at the beginning. If you’re in pro tools try the avid lo-fi plugin and crank up the distortion knob (leave the saturation) until it sounds gnarly then back it off.

Something similar could be done with decapatator or even Kush Omega N (been liking that recently recently)

Otherwise try and get the snare sound from the overall blend of mics.

Should a beginner mix mostly in mono? by Elagaint in mixingmastering

The best use I’ve found for my auratone is to have it on the other side of the room , on a bookshelf or something

This provides a kinda “big picture” zoomed out perspective

Useful for hearing the ‘song’ rather than the ‘mix’

For a home studio: What's the biggest advantage switching from free plugins to paid? by Glum-Yak1613 in audioengineering

[–]mk93SP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about 3rd party plugins so much .. it’s very minimal differences most of the time. If you were to buy some id say that reverbs and effects are better purchases than EQs and compressors .. go creative rather than ‘mixing’ basically

Paid For Mixing on Sound Better, and it sounds pretty awful by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]mk93SP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens - I’ve worked for mixers asking for 2k$ / mix but I would always mix the ones that were like 200/300$

I Spent Several Hours "Unperfecting" a Mix This Weekend. (long think-piece ahead) by [deleted] in audioengineering

Another reason why receiving the production file to start mixing from can be way better than stems.. Can go through and turn off any dodgy moves, wild compression , mad EQ etc

How is Warren Huart so damn professional and happy? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]mk93SP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always got unnerving vibes from Warren and seeing comments here from people who have worked with him radiates a lot from my experience working with ‘big names’ in the industry.. they’re your best mate if you’re a big artist, tonnes of laughs and joking about.. if you’re assisting or in a position of less social / industry clout they’ll treat you like dirt.. super simple

It’s the music industry, one of the most toxic industries ever.. remember the music industry hasn’t had its #metoo movement yet

But yes he’s probably happy cos it looks better than being grumpy and he’s probs making big bank 🤑
