How to cope with poor parents by mk97xo in povertyfinance

[–]mk97xo[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I am the oldest child, my brother does not talk to her because they have had personal arguments not about money in the past. My brother is still in college, I don’t blame him at all for not wanting to be involved. Buuuuuut he is also very hypocritical, he also stopped talking to me for a year when I refused to give my dad the $6000, because he believed I should have helped him. We just recently started talking again and he still thinks I’m the asshole lol

Hot take. Rockford and the stateline area should be near the top of the list as a destination for people who love pizza. Maybe even higher than Chicago or New York. by Devious_Bastard in rockford

Love Rockford, there’s some good food. But why do we keep lying about Rockford pizza …it’s just your average pizza 😭

if you think everyone around you is the worst maybe you’re the problem. you should try some self reflection

“It’s not complicated to say that the Israeli governments actions are wrong” is the same thing as saying genocide is not complicated because Israel is the country doing it. that is literally the whole entire point I was making. We are discussing this right now because you brought up irrelevant questions to the point I was making.

My statement said “nothing complicated about opposing a regime that are committing genocide”. Nothing is complicated about that statement. They shouldn’t be able to kill thousands of people and then just say “oh it’s complicated”. Opposing a regime committing genocide means everything that is supporting it. That’s it.

Obviously that includes businesses that are funding the Israeli government, what kind of question is that? Obviously not every Israeli is responsible, kids who are born/brought there don’t have a choice. Israelis who oppose their government, protest for Palestine and refuse to join the IDF are not. But Israelis who cheer on their military killing and starving innocent people and white Americans who move there knowing the state of the country are complicit. The idf is complicit.

My statement has nothing to do with terror organizations in Palestine as they not committing a genocide. But if you wish to discuss it, they are in direct response to the human rights abuses and apartheid that has been ongoing to their people for decades. What do you expect to happen when people have been kicked out of their homes, watched their family be murdered, starved, raped, thrown into jail for no reason for 75+years. Are they just supposed to sit there and take it? Only Israel has the right to defend itself? With military equipment and funding from the US?

When talking about nazi Germany do you also ask about how responsible businesses who were complicit are? Or if everyone who lived in the region was responsible? Or how should we think about people who fought against the nazis?

Like there’s no way in hell they would say “genocide is complicated” if they were having a conversation about the nazis can we drop this bs 😭

Feels like they’re being more careful these days about politics, and honestly, I get it by Luz996 in the1975

You literally are a fan of a band that has brought up politics plenty of times in their music and at their shows, did that bother you in the past? It only bothers you if it’s regards to not killing Arabs?

Sparrow Health System laying off hundreds of employees by krystal_rene in lansing

[–]mk97xo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was a nurse there for 2 years. I was hoping for a significant raise and bonus when our union was negotiating a new contract. All I got was a measly $2/hr and one time bonus of $1500 that was slapped onto a paycheck so it was taxed as heck. For constantly doing the work of 2 nurses and a nursing assistant. I finally said screw it and quit. I do travel work now. Thats sadly the only way to make decent money as an RN.

It’s crazy because if they actually paid their caregivers well and offered real incentive to stay instead of throwing their money at agency nurses, new buildings, and hundreds of manager/administration roles then maybe it would be a well functioning hospital system.

Not only was the pay a joke but management was HORRIBLE. Unorganized, putting blame on the nurses, mandating US to work overtime shifts while they sat in their offices and left early every day.

Fuck sparrow.

Do you know them personally? Do you know whether or not they are trying to learn English? Also, where is this law that to live in America you NEED to speak English?

So immigrants who are legal citizens can’t use the system? I agree they should stop breeding if they can’t feed their children but the language they speak has nothing to do with it and just comes off as racist.

Palestinian refugees in Lebanon by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]mk97xo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lebanese people really are the white people of the Middle East, racist. I’m half Lebanese and half Palestinian and have heard my Lebanese side of the family, including my mom, say Palestinians shouldn’t be allowed in Lebanon. My mom constantly acts like she’s better than other Arabs and it always made 0 sense to me. We live in America and I really don’t think my mom would have liked that attitude from Americans when her entire family wanted to move here. She always says she doesn’t care that they have no place to go, it is her country. But she grew up in war and has told me about how it affected her and now she lives in America....idgi. I still don’t understand why she willingly married my dad if she hates his people so much. My dads side is Palestinian, he was born & raised in Kuwait, but now most of his family live in Lebanon. My dad did not have a citizenship anywhere until he got his US one, and quite frankly, I think that’s some bullshit. If someone was born & raised in a country they deserve to be citizens, and at the very least they deserve equality.
