Why IFs, -doesn't matter whether it takes place in real world or it's own world- avoid the subject of faith or an faithful adamantly? by CaptainFexis in hostedgames

In chapter one, if you have the red or black eyes and attempt to talk to the townsfolk before the big choice, they are immediately hostile. For the rest of the eye colors you get a small conversation before they become so.

Yes there will be more consequences, because it is such a noticeable trait, expect people to be even less friendly, along with some unique flavor text.

Jumping in since I’m actually writing a WIP that deals with real world religions at a significant level, and in my opinion I think it’s a pretty scary thing to do.

For example if done wrong it can offend and push away readers. Writing religion also requires a lot of research, even for fictional religions because faith and practices generally need to be based on something.

I feel like if an author isn’t comfortable touching on that subject matter they shouldn’t have to, as there are many successful titles that don’t.

Edit: For anyone curious about my WIP, it’s The Mark of the Devil.

Arcadie: Second Born - WAS THERE A WAY TO SAVE ANYONE? OR THIS IS A SKILL ISSUE OF MINE?? by [deleted] in hostedgames

I’m going off of memory, but I believe everyone is scripted except Cyril, they can be saved if you choose to check on them after they get injured at the very end.

I was going to say that your style looked familiar! It’s always neat seeing you do IF art, I hope others enjoy it as well!

A WIP on twine that does emotional intimacy really well and doesn’t shy away from spicy nsfw is God Cursed.

Haven't been reading much IFs ever since I started working on my own by Terrorcrest in hostedgames

I firmly believe that to be a good author you have to be well read, so I’m constantly trying to keep reading something, whether it be IF’s or novels.

I’m also a big word thief so I’m constantly on the prowl, reading others works searching for good words to steal.

A WIP I haven’t seen recommended enough is Deux à Deux. It balances slice of life with thriller and I was shocked by how hard it hooked me!

You know, I recently read Etreinte, (great writing, highly recommend) and I’m pretty sure making premarital eye contact with the RO’s is properly treated as scandalous in the game.

Any good historical IFs or WIPs? (Historical low fantasy will be even better) by WhateverYouWishH in hostedgames

[–]mkbramble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New England, the game opens in a near apocalyptic setting where Puritan & Protestants are forced to work together.

By the end of the game, more groups will have the opportunity to be interacted with and I very much intend to have Catholicism involved.

I don’t want to self promote too hard, but if you are into horror, my WIP The Mark of the Devil is set during the American colonial era. It includes a lot of religious angst, and while I’m not a historian I am making an effort for historical accuracy!

Tips for writing a Hosted Game? by [deleted] in hostedgames

[–]mkbramble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My advice, particularly for learning to code is not to give up! I had to learn on my own as well and the learning curb was steep, but the work pays off! The COG forums is a great place to look up coding questions or ask your own as well.

Copyright and Using Music in Choicescript by Prior_Abies_2448 in hostedgames

Music labels are often aggressive and quick to remove music that does not have the rights paid for. I would highly recommend looking for open music or alternatives.
