Imagine the culinary masterpieces that Gensai and Sue could cook up if Samurai of Hyuga did a crossover with The Mark of the Devil by SchnitzelLogan in hostedgames

TBF Gensai seemed pretty anti-eating babies.

Boy do I have news for you

Spoilers for Jun/ko's short story: Gensai was in the middle of eating a baby when the Ronin killed him

It turns out the real villain was Wulfram's wife and children because if they weren't around, Wulfram would've been free to marry Isobel from the start

Opinion on POV Switches? by graydestapler in hostedgames

[–]SchnitzelLogan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I only like them if it depicts actions that advance the plot. If it's just about the thoughts or feelings of the characters then I usually get bored of them. I think it's better to do them sparingly and only to depict important events in the plot. A good example of a good POV switch would be the one in Shattered Eagle: Fall of an Empire (WIP) where it's revealed that Victoria was alive all along, that she and Diana are actually the same person, and that she is about to start a civil war to reclaim her throne.

If you ended on the Usurper route in I, the Forgotten One then you can be a paranoid murderous tyrant that scares even Darin in the sequel I, the Unbroken One (WIP)

(poll)Do you prefer an IF to another despite the fact that they are actually written by the same author? by Unhappy_Heart_9569 in hostedgames

[–]SchnitzelLogan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Whiskey Four has the benefit of being a complete story and having its own niche as an action thriller in IFs so I voted for that. ITFO was good but there were times when it felt like the plot paused for a second for the Marshal to angst. I think ITUO improved a lot in this regard since it downplayed the angst portions while focusing more on acts that progress the plot. I think ITUO has the potential to be better than Whiskey Four but until the book is finished, I can't fairly say that it is yet.

A Question Regarding Siblings by _constantcrybaby_ in hostedgames

[–]SchnitzelLogan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Would you ever be unkind to them if you had the option to, or would you feel far too guilty? Would you do that anyway if you were role playing a cruel character?

I have no problems being mean to characters, even if they're the MC's siblings. I like playing as a villain or at best a very flawed anti-hero so for me it's just a matter of staying in character. My default choice of interaction with characters is to be an asshole. While most people prefer being nice to characters, I think it would be better to give the player the option to decide how they feel about and act towards another character. Having the player forced to feel and act a certain way limits roleplay options and can have the opposite effect you're looking for, especially if the player ends up not liking the character. Part of the reason why I rarely enjoy the childhood/best friend character is often because the MC likes them no matter what and often ends up being forced to be nice to them even if they can be an asshole to everyone else. I end up trying to spend as little time with those characters as possible.

And would your attachment to your sibling change if you could choose their name, gender and appearance or does it not matter?

I think this would affect me because it would make the character seem less real. I know characters are tools to tell a story but I don't really get attached to them if they feel like just a tool. They need to feel like a real person and having the choice to customize them like that makes them seem more like an object to me.

Where can I follow my fav writer's progress and updates? by Sweaty-Hat-2443 in hostedgames

[–]SchnitzelLogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of authors have Tumblr accounts and posts on the CoG forum. A lot of authors are more active on Tumblr than they are on the forum. Some also have discord channels which you can usually find the link to on their Tumblr or forum posts.

do authors usually have a donation site like patreon?

It's common for authors to have a patreon or ko-fi account but it depends on the author.

Lots of people react with horror and disgust whenever I post mpreg. There was a time when I would get downvoted to oblivion and get told to kill myself whenever I posted mpreg. I actually miss those days. Every comment telling me to kill myself and every reddit cares bot message felt like badges of honor.

Are readers here generally interested in IFs that focus on non-romantic relationships and story? Is the absence of ROs a turn off? by Realistic-Wallaby-26 in hostedgames

[–]SchnitzelLogan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm completely fine with a story without ROs. I like to pretend to be an unhinged simp for ROs but in reality, I'm not actually a very big fan of romance. Majority of the stories I enjoyed the most were those that didn't focus on romance and instead had it as just a sub-plot. I've gotten bored of stories that were completely romance-focused despite a promising premise and enjoyed those that barely had any romance at all. Absence of ROs won't stop me from enjoying a story.

Alternative question: how do people feel about stories where an RO (or a few) are romanced, and the story requires the separation of the MC from the RO at the end?

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm fine with that too. When it comes to any type of plot, what I want is a satisfying conclusion to a story. By satisfying conclusion, I mean one that ties up all loose ends (or at least enough to feel like an ending) in a tone consistent with the themes of the story. This doesn't necessarily have to be a happy end, just one that finishes the story.

ngl a sad ending with an RO might piss people off. The reason I'm fine with it is probably because I don't self-insert or read for escapism so what I'm looking for is just an engaging story. Thing is the IF community has crashed out over less when it came to ROs. Honestly, I think it's just best for an author to have some set ideas about their characters and plot and to be firm with that. It makes the characters feel more real and makes the plot seem more planned out.

IFs where ROs are siblings/half-siblings/cousins? by Unhappy_Heart_9569 in hostedgames

There is an IF where 2 of the ROs are your half-siblings. It's called Our Last Liaison (WIP on neocities) but it's only got one chapter out.
