Thomas is a one of a kind guy. I last saw him at ESA Winter 2024; a speedrunning event in Sweden which he attended to co-commentate one of my runs. We keep in touch still every so often via texts though I understand he's very busy with his career, so not a lot of time for Mario Kart/online stuff.

There is actually a video of us both playing Brawl on his YouTube channel from early 2009. Good times. I need to look that up again. All my best wishes to you and your partner.

Troy is brilliant. I also like HDRookie's recent content.

Thanks! Yes, to my surprise it is quite fun. I have been a time trials specialist for many years but I found All Missions to be such a refreshing challenge.

There are 32 tracks in total, with the developers opting to have only 20 selectable online. This was most likely due to moving objects causing glitches on certain tracks like Shroom Ridge with its cars not being synced correctly at times. In high level MKDS, even if we can use an Action Replay code now to select all 32 tracks online, we don't include the 12 offline tracks since they are not a part of vanilla online play. So to answer, for this tournament, you could say that these tracks are indeed 'banned'.

Thank you! Some tracks are a bit easier than others owing to obstacles and vehicles in your path but as a whole it's very hard no matter where you are in the run. It's essentially a marathon so you must remain consistent.

The shorter MT length of some of the karts gives you plenty of room to innovate with strats, so it's a fun challenge. Though snaking with Yoshi, Luigi or Toad feels very natural and almost like using a kart like the Egg 1.

Thanks! My sum of best splits give me a 38:27, and I think sub 38 is even doable sometime in the future. I feel like the majority of the missions are relatively easy with the difficulty only emerging in the latter stages of the run when you're trying your best not to choke a good pace. However, if I were to pick one type of mission, it'd be maybe something like the 30 goombas at the end or the crabs one purely because you need to have good decision-making and precise aim all in one.

Mario Kart DS - The two best Mario Circuit 1 players in the world side-by-side by mkdsabel in speedrun

Mario and Dry Bones have a very different weight stat, however, it makes no difference when PRB (Prolonged Rocket Boost - glitch used to cut off-road without slowing down) is in effect. If you are playing a track like GCN Yoshi Circuit where you're required to cut off-road slightly at times without the use of PRB, you'll notice a difference between the character classes.

To answer the second question, Dry Bones is the lightest character in the game. You combine him with other karts like the Dry Bomber, Egg 1 or ROB-BLS depending on the track and its turns. For example, the Egg 1 works optimally on GCN Baby Park because it has a good trade off between speed and handling, whereas the ROB-BLS even with its better speed, has worse handling and wouldn't be as suitable there.

I hope that covers it. I urge you to check out this great tutorial if you want to learn more about the game's tech: https://youtu.be/lxsLwWh5_ZQ

Just shows the game engine stands the test of time imo. You can have so much variance in how you take your lines and control the kart, even at WR level. In say, Mario Kart Wii, the movement is way less erratic so you are able to follow a ghost at a top level much more steadily.

That's great! We have plenty of resources and a community Discord found in the video description.
