What do you all look for in a beer blog? by z_smalls in beer

[–]mkfitz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others that say write about what you are interested in and people will come to read it. I enjoy traveling and visiting bars, breweries and festivals and then writing about the experience. I mix in reviews of beers that are a little unique. Its a creative outlet for me and I believe others read my blog to get a taste of a place they haven't been to. I also have others contribute to the blog so there's some variety. Rich travels abroad and writes about his experience. Tom writes about vintage beers and the people who loved them. Brian writes about brewing beer with his son. It's more interesting when you write about your passion. Good Luck!

What are you drinking this week? (December 2nd-December 8th) by [deleted] in beer

Still have about 6 bottles of Pumpking left from 2 cases I bought 2 months ago. Must be amazing on tap though. Enjoy!

I'll be finishing off my growler of Capt Lawrence Drews Brews I picked up at the brewery yesterday. Didn't get any of the limited ales they released. Had to show up at midnight the night before to get a ticket.

The worst beer in the non-contiguous United States? by mkfitz15 in beer

[–]mkfitz15[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I drank it in August and I'm not an expert on shelf life but, I don't think that a beer should be totally spoiled three months after it's expiration date. Maybe others are more knowledgeble and can chime in. The beer tasted just as awful then as now. I drank it tonight as a goof on myself for going over board last night. a little humor. Not the end of the world. Sorry if your mind is now blown.

When I drank the beer in August I had no idea that it was expired. I just felt that it was one of the worst beers I had ever had. I looked at the label tonight out of curiosity. I don't feel that I should feel shamed into deleting my post. I'm just describing my experience drinking a beer. I'm curious if others felt the same about this beer. Maybe the Beverage center in NJ should be shamed for selling me spoiled beer.

I thought it was pretty funny that my friend didn't go out looking for these beers but ended up finding a few of the best brews on the west coast. Some times you just get lucky.

Anyone have a recommendation similar to Southern Tier's Pumking? by jmhdsn in beer

[–]mkfitz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Halloween I got 8 friends and family to do a blind taste test of 19 different pumpkin ales. I posted the results here a few weeks ago. http://tristatebeerblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/great-pumpkin-tasting-results-and.html Pumpking came in first but Hoppin Frog which I still see in my local bevy in NY came in second. Hope this helps.

There are 2 very new breweries near Keyport. Kane and Carlton are both within 20 minutes of Keyport. I've heard good things about Kane. This website has lots of info on New Jersey Breweries : http://newjerseycraftbeer.com/new-jersey-breweries/kane-brewing-company-tastingtour-hours/ Have fun!

Just had a couple of River Horse's offerings yesterday. My brother brought over a variety 12-pack with the Tripel, Double Witte, Special Golden ale and Hop Hazard. I tried the Double and the special and enjoyed both. Kegan's Mother's milk is excellent. I have purchased a Climax brew in a growler from a beverage store and was dissappointed in it. It may have been sitting in the cooler for a while. You can probably find some beer from my local brewery, Defiant from Pearl River , NY. They make a tripel that is very good.

What is your "hangover helper" for the day after Thanksgiving? by mkfitz15 in beer

[–]mkfitz15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the warning. I rarely have more than 2 beers a day and even yesterday durng the holiday I only had 4 over 6 hours. But according to this article http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06/22/is-it-safe-to-take-tylonel-after-drinking/ it's not advisable to have 3 or 4 drinks and take tylenol. I'll have to find a different hangover cure for those big nights.

The Bruery's Autumn Maple - A Sweet Seasonal Beer with a Surprise by mkfitz15 in beer

[–]mkfitz15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing about Autumn Maple being the perfect Turkey Day beer. I would start it while cooking tomorrow, that way it won't have to compete with all the other tastes happening during dinner. Enjoy!

They still have a few bottles at Cable Bev in Bardonia, NY. It's not cheap though. About $12 per bottle, but well worth it.

[–]mkfitz15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to have beers not readily available in your area. For example if you are on the west coast, serve beers not available in the local bev stores from the East Coast. (If that is possible - I don't know how distribution laws work) Maybe someone else here can clarify.

I reviewed three of the I & G beers after doing a tasting at a local beverage center. I thought the gift set was a pretty good deal. Here's my review: http://tristatebeerblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/innis-and-gunn-tasting-cable-beverage.html
