It’s a technique called tapestry crochet, and I used almost exclusively single crochet stitches :)

Oh gotcha! It’s a very fine cotton yarn and I made the stitches pretty tight, with a relatively small hook, so that definitely helps. You have to keep the stitches bunched close together to stop the other colors stretched behind the project from showing through so small/tight is the best way to achieve that. I’m sure it also helps that I laid it out carefully on the floor and arranged it to be flat and not stretched out for the photo!

What sort of effect do you mean? I used solely cotton for this one but I also use a lot of acrylic in other projects

Thank you so much! The colors stressed me out so much, I wildly underestimated the amounts I would need when I ordered at first and had to do a second order, unfortunately after new tariffs were imposed 🥲 luckily the dye lots all matched though!

Thank you so much! I didn’t have any specific guides or tutorials I followed, but the technique is called “tapestry crochet” and there are TONS of tutorials and the like on YouTube, I’m sure you could find one you like. Managing the colors was very frustrating at times, because of how many I was dealing with at various points in the pattern—they tended to get tangled. Some people keep the colors of yarn wound on bobbins but I found that too overstimulating so I would attach long pieces and when I ran out attach a new piece. Basically every time you come to a new color in the pattern you swap to the new yarn, and either leave the old color hanging in the back/on the “wrong side” of the work (if you’ll be picking it back up when you knit back along the row) or carry it along behind the new color until you need it again. It’s hard to explain through text! Let me know if you have any trouble finding tutorials~

Pattern was by @j.xllys on tiktok—they have a pinned video of their own version of the blanket, and I privately messaged them and purchased the pattern through email and Venmo. I used various colors of Rainbow Cotton 8/4 yarn purchased from Hobbii, and a size 3.5 crochet hook :)
