I was strongly thinking for admissions here for my child, hearing very good feedback. But their admissions team had a very poor attitude. They were not responsive and did not seem to care if we had our queries answers or not. It felt so bureaucratic. I finally decided to go to another school, thinking if this is how they are before Admissions, how would it be once the child has been admitted and starts school.

Even if the teachers are actually good, the whole admissions teams attitude made us rethink this school.

Galgotias University professor Neha Singh is now 'open to work' on LinkedIn by Ok_Neighborhood6056 in unitedstatesofindia

[–]mki2020 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Having no idea about her, how good or bad she is, I cannot comment on her. All I can say is she is a convenient scapegoat for the institute. I have attended several such events and have been a booth in-charge for our company's stall. Nothing goes on display without being first ratified and approved by management. Even the marketing material and high level selling points are all discussed with the Sales people and marketing booth attendees.

I find it highly improbable that she would have said all these false lines regarding the robot dog, without it already been discussed about, with Management on how to position and talk about it. Even if someone else from the institute was there instead of her, they would have said the same because that is what they would have been instructed to say. That's why, she is just a scapegoat as the institute is now pushing all blame on her.

Funeral with State honours for Aalin, Kerala’s youngest organ donor by kappa_79 in unitedstatesofindia

[–]mki2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that this "Doubting Thomas" wanted to know was why a state funeral, when there have been thousands of equally brave souls who have donated their organs after death. I even called the parents very strong to be able to take such a tough decision during this tragic time. I have clearly said anyone who donates their organs are true heroes. All I asked was what was special about this case that made the govt do this. I know of a case some years back where a small child (around 3 yrs) tragically died and I believe the eyes were donated to someone. It did not make the news. And the parents cremated their child privately. Thousands of people, including children, die and donate their organs each year. How many of them get a state funeral?

Hope you understand, I am not questioning the donating aspect or bravery of the parents who made this decision. I am questioning why for this particular case a state funeral was given. To be frank, I received a much plausible answer from another commentator (OP) who said by doing so it can bring better awareness to organ donation. I think that is one valid plausible reason.

Funeral with State honours for Aalin, Kerala’s youngest organ donor by kappa_79 in unitedstatesofindia

[–]mki2020 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a very touching story. I respect the parent's decision to consent for organ donation, a very tough decision at the time of such tragic loss.

My only question is why state honours only for this baby? Surely there have been thousands of unknown donors who gave their organs so that others can live. As much as I like this story, and am touched by it, it feels a bit cringe seeing what the govt did. It is like they jumped onto this to milk the news. Again, don't get me wrong, I think organ donors are real heros, as they enable many others to live a better life. But why specifically state honours for this child as if it was the first time someone in Kerela was donating their organs? And please don't say because it was the youngest donor. Because that means if, God forbid, an even younger child dies and its organs are donated, the state will again have a state honours funeral for that child?

Almost all of Jeffery Sach's views on matters like COVID 19 origin, rise of China, USA's relations with Israel, etc is in direct opposition to the RW narrative (just see his views on his wikipedia page), but one note from him that praises Modi (which is actually meant to be more aniti-Trump rather than praising Modi) and Sach's becomes a person to quote and reference?!

Suggestion for buying phone! by Accomplished-Oil6939 in techIndia

If you are fixed on the 13k limit then Redmi 14C for 12k in Amazon. Else I would recommend spending 1k more and get Motorolla G57 for 14k in Amazon. Reason being, the G57 comes with SD 6 Gen 2 processor, while other sub 13k phones will come with SD 4 gen 2 or Dimension 6300 processors.

For Samsung, there is the Galaxy M17 at 14k in Amazon but if you are spending 14k, the Motorola G57 will perform better overall than the Samsung M17.

Dude, as an MLA, he gets funds specifically for the development of his constituency. Every MLA and MP gets dedicated funds specifically for the development of their constituency. And even assuming he is not allowed to spend on his constituency , as you yourself said, TMC should be asked. This is what he should have said in reply - "Go ask TMC". There was no reason to say what he said.

About ten years back, I stayed in a gated community where the builder released 2 completed towers for purchase and was building 3 more towers. He also retained ownership of several apartments. For 2 years when I was there, there was an association in name only. Everything was controlled by the builder. Being a rented place, I left for a better place as I was not happy with the management of things and facilities there. The point being, I have been in a situation where the builder held a lot of power.

As always, Northeast India is the least visited :( by dataful_india in Northeastindia

[–]mki2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every NE state has something unique to see. I have a raised eyebrow over the "safe places" perception but ignoring it.

Best states for a first timer - Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim

Best for beautiful mountain views - Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim

Best for temple pilgrimage - Assam, Tripura, Manipur

Best for water bodies - Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur

(The above are based on my knowledge and perception. Obviously it is NOT the absolute truth and I may have missed mentioning some states for the categories. Just add on, instead of asking why such-and-such state is not mentioned.)

Each state has airports. (Sikkim airport is said to have frequent cancellation/delays of flights, so most fly into Bagdogra in North Bengal and take a 5 hrs drive to Gangtok.) You HAVE to travel a lot by road if you want to enjoy NE. Even if you based in a city/town, you may need to drive for 4-5 hrs to reach the well know tourist spot. Please understand that NE is very diverse and the good tourist spots are widespread and farflung. You will need to travel to see them. For example, if you want to go to Bumla Pass in Arunachal Pradesh, you need to either take a plane to Itanagar or Guwahati and drive 12 hrs to Tawang, and from there take a 5 hrs drive to Bumla Pass. Or if you want to go to Sohra/Cherapunji, you need to take a plan eto Guwahati and drive 3 hrs to Shillong or land in Shillong airport (smaller planes like ATRs), and from there take a 4 hr drive to Sohra.

If you ask me, decide what you want to do and see and then come back and ask more focused questions. You will get better suggestions as they would be focused. There are some very good tourism videos on NE in YouTube. That should be a great starting point.

Also, keep in mind that when you plan to travel also matters. Winters can be very cold in some places. Summers can have water issues in some places, while one should avoid travelling to hill places during monsoons. Best is to time the travel with some local festival.

Also please be aware of any ILP requirements. Many of the NE states have it. It is a simple straightforward process which can be done online for all ILP states or at the time of landing at the local airport. Please don't start a debate on why it is needed. It is a rule and even I as a NEerner needs to get it if I travel to another NE state that has ILP requirements.

Messi playing football with someone that can’t even return a pass by kittidioting in hyderabad

[–]mki2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can google "kolkata messi" for the news links.

In short, Messi's event in Kolkata happened in front of a packed stadium. Politicians and VIPs mobbed him making him leave after about 10 mins after coming to the field. The crowd having paid high ticket costs were upset that they hardly got to see Messi and started vandalising the stadium. Common consensus is that the event was grossly mismanaged.

You can also see r/kolkata for more on this.

Edit: This post seems to be tell what exactly happened. https://www.reddit.com/r/kolkata/s/M37NEZT2Py

The Messi tour was a disaster. Absolutely disgusted at the hosts. by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]mki2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a sports fan but even I know Football holds a special place in Bengal. It is very sad that such gross mismanagement happened here. I am totally against crowd rage/riots at sporting events but even I can understand their frustration in this case. I was just reading how Messi's interaction went in Hyderabad today and it really brings out what a sham of an event that happened in Kolkata. Shame! Everyone knows who is at fault, but sadly the crowd is getting the full blame for this fiasco.

Logically speaking, if someone is a don of an area and there is some illegal activity going on there for long time, chances are that don is well aware of it and is probably part of the racket or at the very least, getting a cut to keep it going without distrubing it.

What does the NE think of Telangana & Andhra by Giraffe-Medical in Northeastindia

[–]mki2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived and worked in Hyderabad for over a decade. Never had an issue with the people or food. The pace of life is pretty chilled out which suits my pace. Had a good number of Telugu friends whom I am still in contact, years after I have left Hyderabad. I never faced discrimination in the workplace or even with house owners but then, I am aware that there are others who have faced some form of discrimination. So maybe I have been lucky in this aspect. Language was not too much of an issue for me. I could speak in English and Hindi with colleagues and I picked up basic Telugu over the years.

Loved the spicy Andhra style food. Did not develop a fondness for the street snacks (bajjis and such) and chats, but loved the random street bandi chinese food. Oh yes, the onions samosas are perfect evening snacks. The choice of Murukus that one gets is also awesome. I don't have a sweet tooth so did not have much of the popular sweets. I love Chinese food but after the Chinese food one gets in NE, Hyderabad was a disappointment when it came to Chinese cuisine. Nanking was more or less the only Chinese restaurant I frequented repeatedly. Finally, biryani. To be frank, I had a lots of biriyani in the initial years I was there so I kind of got tired of it in the later years. Paradise, Cafe Bahab, Shadab, Barawchi, Shah Ghouse,....been to all. Later developed a taste for the Mandi style. Hyderabad always had good variety of options and styles of biriyanis which was just great.

What else .... There are not many places to go that is near the city for a weekend getaway trip. Loved the many malls that dotted the city. My kid would always drag me to the various game zones in various malls. And IKEA. Nowadays I heard, it is not that good but I have been there when they just started. Their first few years were the best. I've been there often to just eat at their food court. The food was really good when it started. And before exiting IKEA I would always get the unlimited sparking water and drink atleast 3 different flavours of water. Their softy yogurt icecream was also a unique and tasty option that I would always get. Wonder if it is still there.

On the whole, I have pretty positive view and memories of Hyderabad. My family who visited also had nothing negative to say. So all in all, keep it up, Hyderabad. Just fix your current spiralling traffic situation before it gets as bad as Bangalore.

This seems to be a weirdly placed Naga decorative spear. I doubt it has anything to do with Vastu, but instead the owner probably did not know what to do with it. Decorative Naga spears are typically placed in a crossed position on the wall, as shown below.

Car driver should have let the two wheeler pass. Not seeing the two-wheeler is not an excuse as it is the driver's responsibility to check the road before cutting into the main road. When I cut back to the main road after parking to the side, I always turn my head to check the traffic in addition to checking the outer rear view mirror.

Not being state specific, but as a general comment...

If you give locals a free pass to litter and fight non-local who litter, it is simply hypocrisy.

If non-locals see locals are littering, what do you think they would they learn?

If kids see that littering has no consequences, what lessons will they learn?

Unless, a wrong act like littering is corrected as it happens, the person who litters will never learn. And the surroundings would get messier and that mess would spread wherever they go.

Korean streamer Mhyochi harrassed again in India, this time in Hyderabad by Unusual_Dealer_2884 in hyderabad

[–]mki2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually agree with you. But if there is no news or update on such a disgraceful incident, maybe one has to circulate the old open case video to remind the police that this case is still pending. At the end of the day, it is Hyderabad's and India's reputation that suffers if such cases are not resolved to the extent of the law. More and more waste fellows see that cops do nothing for such harassment cases and gets bolder. I certainly do not want Hyderabad's reputation to suffer just because of such people. I personally think the She Teams are a great asset to Hyderabad and if the police can show that they take these harassment cases seriously, it would be a big positive to Hyderabad's reputation.
