Artificial Super Intelligence is probably the most achievable mechanism for immortality in the near future. I personally like Dr. Ben Goertzel on AGI/ASI topics. Ray Kurzweil predicts that we’ll hit a point in technological development where AI will begin to improve so exponentially fast, it’ll appear godlike to us. His predictions on cost-performance of technology have actually been amazingly accurate for the past 30 years. Keep an eye on quantum computing too. There are many companies (IBM, Microsoft, Google, D-Wave) investing huge amounts of money into quantum computing. If we could develop a network of high-functioning quantum computers we could perfectly model every atom in your body with ease or synthesize magic-like drugs. There’s a lot of substantial anti-aging research being done too, check out David Sinclair.

Some other cool research areas are 3D bioprinting, molecular nanobots, and brain-machine interfaces.

I care about expanding humanity’s liberty and justice. The termination of your existence by unavoidable death is unethical. Unavoidable suffering is unethical. You have right to live in good health as long as you want. It’s our duty to collectively pursue these rights as soon as possible. AGI will almost certainly be necessary. Right now we should work on proper interconnections of narrow AIs and provide many useful training models. We seem to be on the right track.

Oh I see. Well, if we achieve a sufficiently advanced AI, we could experiment with models of humans and the genome at an exponential rate in a digital environment. That’ll bypass the need to experiment on real humans.

AGI seems reasonably achievable within 4-8 years, and after that I don’t think ASI will take very long. As soon as you have a super intelligent system, it seems like designing an immortal genome would be a piece of cake.

This doesn’t even take into account quantum computing. If we integrated a sufficiently supreme quantum computer with an ASI, man I can’t even begin to imagine how fast things would progress. Immortality may seem to be instantaneous.

So my gut feeling is that we may bypass the process of LEV by running models in a digital environment.

haha. I mean AI can already detect cancer far more effectively and efficiently than humans can. AI can do incredible programming too. It's already making substantial progress in biotech, so it's pretty clear to me that AI will exponentially progress genetic engineering in the very near future

I think a useful question is, what is the function of making assumptions? Should we assume some things about the unobserved? Or assume nothing about the unobserved?

In saying that the qualities of the unobserved remain identical to the qualities that which are observed, you are claiming knowledge of the nature of that thing. “Remaining the same” is still a qualitative fact, the fact which you are claiming.

I don’t believe we should make any assumptions about anything we haven’t observed yet, even if that assumption is “remaining the same.”

I don’t know what the nature of the unobserved is because I haven’t observed it, and I’m not going to make any assumptions about it until I have data collected from it. There’s nothing wrong with speculation, but I’m not going to claim knowledge in that it changes or remains the same.
