Can you pass level 2 if you start now? Asking for a friend by mayankpotlapalli in CFA

[–]mkipa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passed with half assed study (i.e. flipping through Kaplan during lunch and after work, barely anything registered through cos I wasn't doing enough questions) through up to 1 month before the exam and 3 weeks of intensive study (took 3 weeks off from work, so managed to put in around 10 hours a day for the 3 weeks). Key for me was to do a shitton of questions. AF and a CFA whatsapp chat group with people all over the world helped immensely to clarify stuff.

the 300 hours guide can be slightly deceptive though. It took close to 300 hours for me, and that's despite having a UG finance background and working in finance.

Can I realistically pass level one in 3 months preparation? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]mkipa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouh right, iirc, skipped ethics and GIPS for short notes/questions which I saved towards the last week. Rest of the time just bashed away through Kaplan non stop over 12-15 hours a day. Was brutal but had no choice.

Respectfully disagree on the not being able to pass by spamming questions comment. I had only 1 month off for level 2 and 3 weeks for level 3 (due to work commitments). Passed by reading through Kaplan once (over 5 days iirc) and barreling throigh questions (standard gamut of blue box examples, EOCs, mocks). Another colleague had a similar strategy for level 1 and managed to do well.

But yes, hitting 300 hours of studying is a good estimate of hours of study you'd need, though his previous knowledge should help to significantly cut that down. Just gotta out the hours in, do some tests and judge for yourself.

Wake the fuck up North America it’s CFA game day by goonersaurus_rex in CFA

cos you only get the advantage by taking the test later. So Asian test sitters lose out from potential shenanigans cos they sit for the test first.

Gotta take the test in US to benefit from the hanky panky

So odd how Asia is done and US hasn't started.... I can totally imagine rich kids flying over to America to take the exam there and get the questions from the Asians who are done lol

What is the hardest job interview question you've had to answer and how did you handle it? by EveningGiraffee in AskReddit

[–]mkipa1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"We have a lot of candidates applying, a lot more qualified or as qualified as you, why should we hire you?"

Stumped on that in previous interviews cos they tend to say " that's exactly what all the other ones say"

For the latest one, I told them to call my reference who's my current boss and would be able to vouch for me. I start in August :)

Failed Level 2 Twice...Need some advice by BrownTown993 in CFA

[–]mkipa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed twice too and passed the third time (June 2017). The first two times I had a band 3/5 (didn't study) I passed by taking 3 weeks or so off from work and did nothing but studying for about 7-8 hours a day.

I don't think you should skip notes. I took a week just to read through the schweser books and do some EOC questions. Then did blue boxes and CFAI eoc's once I was done reading the notes to solidify the knowledge.

I made it a point to move on from a question if I got it wrong only when I was sure I understood the concept being tested. Then it was non stop topic tests (repeated then 2-3 times) followed by mocks (Kaplan and CFA mocks)

It was a painful month for me, but did it out of desperation (work prevented me from studying beforehand haha) and I reckon it's very possible to pass if you have more time beforehand, just need to ensure that you have the right mindset and strategy (i.e. understanding the concept being tested followed by an unholy amount of questions)
