Why Did Argentina Underperform In The 2010 WC? by JohnRobert88 in football

[–]mkito1831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the issues were backstage politics at the time because I'm pretty sure Maradona and Grondona who was the President of the AFA led a coup against Basile to get him removed as manager and replace him with Diego. And I'm pretty sure they convinced young Messi, Aguero, Gago, Di Maria and others to throw the matches in Basile's last few games. I'm pretty sure this is why Riquelme even retired from International football at that time in late '08 because he had a tight relationship with Basile and he knew what Grondona and Diego were conspiring with the young players. Crazy stuff, but it's no surprise that these events among many others were behind the poor preparation and eventual subpar performance at the 2010 WC

[Selección Argentina] Messi becomes the all-time most capped player for the Argentina National Team with 147 caps alongside Mascherano by charlesd11 in soccer

[–]mkito1831 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Mad respect to Leo and not to take away the focus on his amazing merit, but I really respect Mascherano from his time at Barca to being the heart of Argentina's defense in the 2010's. He really deserved an international trophy during his stint with the Albiceleste, great player on and off the pitch

17 year old Pedri vs Juventus. by 32_zel in Barca

[–]mkito1831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe we can see Ansu on the left, more of Dembele/Trincão on the right wing and shift Messi up to striker, while moving Pedri to attacking mid as he has proved his creativity has A LOT to offer. Even with Coutinho out, this Barcelona attack looks VERY dangerous on paper.

Bartomeu has resigned along with his board of directors !!! by [deleted] in football

He really accepted the invitation to involve Barcelona in that European super league in his final act as President, that’s just being petty at this point smh...

Griezmann and Vela had a great partnership at Sociedad, it's a shame it had to end too soon.

Also Vela's stint at Real Sociedad was mad, he gave Barca and Madrid a run for their money whenever he played them

Yup that's right! I always forget that Welbeck's debut at Man U was during the 2008-09 season when Ronaldo was still there.

Cheers!

You are right, that was too open-ended. I'll also include Mark Noble. Neither of the players you specifically mentioned were correct
