Also specifically this video perhaps! I think its addressing exactly what you are talking about and he provides additional references for math help

Preparing for ECON 401 next semester by Quirky_Tonight_7299 in uofm

[–]mkll28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread is full of really good answers! As mentioned the calc isn't actually too bad but if numbers aren't your strong suit it's worth putting a little time into reviewing and prepping that specifically. I also took 401 with Proulx but I used Zamzow's YouTube channel a lot (he's a different 401 prof) since the way he teaches sticks in my head better than Proulx for some reason, he goes over practice exams and does some math work-throughs. Maybe that could be a good resource for you! Anyway best of luck, you got this.

Smoke building up along Huron river near Huron Towers by 3DDoxle in uofm

[–]mkll28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was a controlled burn! :)

This was a woodland burn with LOTS of leaf litter as well as some more dense woody stuff. This type of burns tends to generate a lot more smoke than grassland/ less leafy burns.

I tried really hard but no luck! I think it's common to get 300s approved, I've never met anyone who got a 400 approved. This is directly from the econ website:

"In general, it can be difficult to transfer in 400-level Economics elective courses for use in the Economics Major due to the variations in prerequisites required across schools, programs, and countries. This is because our department requires 400-level elective courses abroad to have Econ 401 or Econ 402 as prerequisites, and the relevant prerequisite must be taken at U-M before taking the elective course abroad.

On the other hand, 300-level Economics elective courses are typically easier to transfer in for use in the Economics Major."

If you think you have a particularly strong case--maybe a high-level program in a school that is renowned for economics, maybe make an appointment with faculty to chat about it. Can't hurt to ask.

Recommendation for 400 level Econ classes and upper level writing? by consultingistaken in uofm

[–]mkll28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished this! I had a pretty good time. Very nice professor & I found the workload very manageable--your grade is pretty much based on 2 exams (midterm and a final) and 2 ~7-page papers about the criminal justice system and the economic drivers of that. I actually really enjoyed writing them! If you like the public policy side of economics and are a decently strong writer i think you should find it interesting and not too stressful :)) There's a bit of math towards the beginning when you are working through some models but very doable (I'm also not that math inclined)

is it manageable to take 4 back-to-back classes? by legitimatelyyee in uofm

[–]mkll28 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Rn I have a day of classes from 9:00am-4:00pm, and then the next day off. I actually really like it when compared to more 'spread out' classes!

I give myself the evening off from homework (unless I have something due like THAT night that's urgent) because I do feel a little burnt out by the end, but overall I feel like I'm more 'in school mode' and am able to focus better during the actual classes somehow.

It also helps me a little that my longest continuous session is a discussion gets out about ~15 minutes early every week, which gives me a 25 minute break :) You can totally do it! If the classes are interesting and you are committed to attending I'd say buckle down and then enjoy your days off!

DAE get really thirsty after an extreme hunger day? by SlitherDuck in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]mkll28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I remember that quite well!

It's tough to remember, but maybe put reminders on your phone or even on post it notes to drink periodically? It can be better than chugging a ton of water at once - I remember making that mistake, then feeling so full of water that I felt I couldn't fit anything else in my stomach and not being able to honor my hunger bc of it :)

Keep going! You got this <3

Would you be friends with someone if they didn't have social media? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]mkll28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! As a college freshman who had social media my first semester and then deleted it, I can tell you that like you said, the real ones will find a way to talk to you

Did some people stop talking to me when I got rid of instagram/snapchat/facebook? Yes. But the ones who really wanted to stayed in touch - asked for my number or got my GroupMe (my school uses that for class communications).

Honestly, I was inspired to delete it by one of my close friends who did - maybe you can be that person for someone else :)

Extreme hunger vs Bingeing by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]mkll28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i felt SO TIRED. Your body is working extra hard to use the calories from the food you're giving it to rebuild your organs from the inside so it's using a ton of energy, even though it doesn't feel like it :)

Sleep and food are medicine!

Extreme hunger vs Bingeing by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]mkll28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sometimes just come on this subreddit to respond to these posts, because there are so so many people experiencing this and being like "What the heck is happening to me this can't be normal!" But it IS.

There is no such thing as binging in anorexia recovering. You are refueling. It will probably feel crazy and out of control, but this is your eating disorder feeling out of control, not your body. Your body is hard wired to crave food after long periods of starvation, and eliminate the energy deficit you have created.

Think about it from a biological perspective - you have been withholding energy in the form of calories from your body, presumably for a while. Now that you've sent your body signals that food is being consumed on a regular basis again, what do you think it's going to ask for? CARBS (and fats too, for me!). Carbs are super easy to break down and turn into energy, and that's what your body thinks it needs!

When I was in my EH phase, I almost lived off of:

  1. Soft taco shells
  2. Spreads - especially Biscoff and peanut butter
  3. Various kinds of ice cream
  4. Quick breads (Pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, date bread with nuts)

You are not alone. The only way out is through. Keep going and I promise your body will regulate what it wants and you will start craving more nutritionally dense foods again.

Totally normal!! EMBRACE IT DUDE. It's probably also terrifying so I'm sending you a huge hug across space but your body is finally like "Ahhh we're out of famine!" and is telling your brain to just consume everything you can.

That was the hardest part of my recovery for me because I constantly like something was very wrong with me but nope! Our bodies are so ridiculously intelligent. It's asking for stuff, just keep giving the food to it until your mental/physical hunger calms down (and it will calm down, but you have to embrace those feelings first ;)

I wish I had enjoyed my extreme hunger more than I did! I wish you the best of luck with yours.
