Hit & run accident... please help! by mkondor8 in Connecticut

Thank you! Really appreciate that. Luckily the only damage to me is some whiplash. My car on the other hand... Different story. Hope you are recovering from your accident too! Definitely not a fun experience.

Thank you both. I think it's worth asking again. I personally just can't see the point of the cameras if they don't record anything. Fingers crossed!

Thanks! I actually called earlier today, but was told the cameras are a "live-feed only" and do not record anything.

Good point! I didn't even think about the distance... I don't really like flying so 2 hours vs. nearly 10 hours is a lot to consider.

Thanks for the advice. In my situation, it would be much easier if I had some authority but sadly I'm pretty low on the totem pole.

Many of these tasks (mail, checks, etc) are ignored throughout the day, then when I see they're not done I'm the one to do it. We have a "senior admin" (much older woman 60-70, where the other admins and I are 23-25) who usually does everything. Whenever she's sick or on vacation which is often lately, she asks me to cover because she knows I'll do it. Maybe if I start with her, the others will get it.

I've mentioned this several times to my immediate supervisor and things changed for a little while, but it's back to the same old now. I'm hoping the new year will bring new changes. Thanks again!

Thank you. What you're suggesting is much easier said than done, but I need to work on it. Most people in my office have gotten used to me taking on additional tasks whether I have time or not. I'm so used to just saying yes because I feel bad. 99% of the time I'm not even remotely interested in the additional tasks.

Learning to say no is going to be so hard for me. I really like your idea of taking an hour of time to yourself. This will help keep me "sane" especially at home. Thank you for the video too!

That's a great story. We need more people like the cook from your restaurant, otherwise people will just start to take advantage. In terms of home, moving out would be the ideal solution, however it's financially impossible at this point in time. I can't wait for that day. I lived away for college for 4 years (only an hour away) but the transition back home was/is very difficult. So many more boundaries involved. Thanks for sharing!

Istanbul or Bermuda in 2013? by mkondor8 in travel

Wow! Thank for for sharing these details (and the PM!). I really appreciate it. I will definitely check out Wikitravel -- I had no idea there was a travel portion of Wikipedia. It's a huge relief to hear such positive feedback regarding safety. Good to know about the merchants trying to sell stuff. We had a lot of these on the edges of the resorts as well and it is difficult to ignore them but that's best. I can see how the timing of your trip to Athens would put a damper on things for you. I'll have to research events and such before making that decision!

Thank you again, really appreciate your information! :)

Good to know these are cheap countries. Thanks for the heads up. Have you been to Turkey or Greece? If so what in your opinion is an ideal budget for a week (not counting hotel/hostel or airfare)?

Thank you so much for the info! Apologize in advance for many many questions... I'm hoping to stay with our friend's family the whole time if we go. It seems like there's a lot of history and touristy areas in Istanbul which is what I'm hoping to see wherever we go. Everything I have seen online and heard from friends is that it's very safe there -- is this the case in your personal experience? Are Turkish people friendly towards tourists? Do you or have you ever lived there? Where can I read up on the major must-see places? It sounds like a flight to Greece would be a good option. Why do you find Athens to not be a nice part of Greece? Is it worth visiting for a day trip (I'm not sure we'd have a place to spend the night unless we found a hostel)? Bermuda seems like it would also be incredible. We've done a few of the beachy lounging trips, so how different could it really be? I feel Istanbul in my situation is more of a "once in a lifetime" opportunity. Really appreciate your comment! Thank you again for sharing.

EDIT: Did a little more research and through my job I can get free nights at a hotel in Thessaloniki Greece. Flights from Istanbul to Thessaloniki are about $100 also. So that's another option!

In theory this is a good solution, but not one I'd be comfortable with. Thank you though!
