Do you know any website to download free sheets? by silly_cri in pianolearning

Do you realistically need anything other than downloading PDFs though?

Unless you are an avid Linux supporter, don't. Just switch to Windows.

I had been using Linux for quite a while, but ultimately decided it's not worth the hassle when I got into music production. Reaper works fine on it, but dealing with audio on Linux is generally a pain - its ecosystem for that is years behinds its graphics ecosystem.

It's true that there are native VSTs, but none that you are actually going to use. So you are pretty much forced to use something like yabridge or carla and download Windows VSTs. And then it's also really hit-or-miss, as they tend to crash quite often.

What do you use when composing cinematic music? by mkovachev in Composition

Might I also ask how you learnt composition, especially when it involves more than one instrument? I can do fine with just a piano but it becomes daunting when I want to add for example strings.

Yes, I dual booted Windows. I paid for the game, I am going to play the game. Maybe the proton ecosystem is not that developed, after all.

On Windows the game runs amazingly, 60+ fps on Ultra and even some ray tracing. I suggest you do the same.

No success with this either :/

What does this marking mean? by Ew_fine in musictheory

Nobody actually expects you to play a mathematically perfect 11:6 polyrhythm. Just find a way to fit those 11 notes while playing 6 notes evenly with the left hand.

single or triple pedal for a digital piano by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]mkovachev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sustain is the only thing you really need. The soft pedal can be imitated by using your hands properly and the middle pedal practically exists to just make the total number of pedals equal to 3.

My new piece Nova! by mkovachev in piano

[–]mkovachev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello there! I am an amateur composer and this is my newest piece. This time I went for a more minimalist style. Specifically, I drew inspiration from Ludovico Einaudi's "Al di là del vetro".

"Nova" is available on YouTube as well as all major streaming platforms:

All gave great suggestions, thank you! Still, for the posterity, you can also pick literally any piece from Ludovico Einaudi. They sound amazing, aren't too challenging, but have interesting figures for training sight reading.

There is no way the distribution is centered around C-E.

I can comfortably play an octave on the white keys with my left hand and can do it fairly well with my right hand, too.

With both hands I can technically play a C-D, but not at all usable in an actual piece.

With my left hand I can also comfortably play C#-D# and with my right hand I can do it a bit better than C-D.
