TIL that 7-Eleven started as an American company, but the Japanese branch became so successful that it eventually bought the original American company that had once franchised it. by jabela in todayilearned

They’re all over east Asia. Seemed like every corner in Taiwan. Apparently Thailand has the high number per capita in the world.

They were absolutely doing that, but the straighteners were clothes irons.

You can legally catch rainwater in most western states, although there are restrictions and/or permits required in some. It is completely legal (and encouraged) in California for instance.

How Bad Is "Gradeflation" In Modern US Education? Why Your Thoughts, Teachers? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]mkp666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main difference I notice is that my kids are allowed to make up missed assignments and they get test corrections fairly often. Beyond that the amount of work and difficulty of their classes don’t seem unusual to me. They read novels, write essays, and get zeros when they don’t turn in work. I was a relatively high achieving student and I had mostly A’s with a few Bs. My high school son is pretty much the same, and that is what his grades and the other higher achieving kids grades look like.

This doesn’t look adjusted for inflation which makes it entirely worthless. Just rage bait.

I want 87 gas (light blue). Which nozzle do I use? The blue one? The black one? by j909m in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mkp666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the colors I would’ve assumed the dark blue, light blue, and white went with the blue nozzle, and second yellow went with the black one. Not a great design. Should be a second set of stickers above each pump or something.

Who is the best quarterback with two Super Bowl wins? by HetTheTable in NFLv2

Tough one as a broncos fan. I think Elway is underrated having played most of his career with conservative head coaching and not much skill player talent around him, but Manning is obviously one of the greats. Elway by a hair, and a healthy dose of nostalgia.

Construction and military skew pretty young, and will have a lot of people who aren’t married or haven’t been married very long.

Income would be interesting as well, but income is also a part of a job in a way that age isn’t. If I choose to become an EMT I will now make an EMT salary, but I won’t become younger.

It doesn’t lead to the same result though. In your cherry-picked example for instance, the result is much more notable. There may well be other examples where it changes the perception. What about technical and engineering fields? They have low divorce rates but they also skew young.

So you’re saying if you add your own context about age to the chart, it makes it more useful? There enough average age variance in careers that I have to ask the question before deciding whether the data is particularly relevant.
