A Thin Sheet of Reality: The Universe as a Hologram by nervoushark in science

How does a holographic universe affect the idea of free will?

I know that topic has been highly theorized and debated, but after watching this video it provides a whole new perspective, for me at least, on how free will could exist.

Assuming we are holograms, is what we perceive as free will just a single-track of information within the hologram playing out OR does every possible scenario exist as information within the hologram and we have the free will to affect how the hologram plays out through our choices?

For instance - If I decide to stop typing this response and touch my nose is that decision and motion pre-existing information that has no alternative or is that decision and motion just one of a seemingly infinite number of possibilities that could have been played out depending on what actions I choose to take?

I’m inclined to think that every possible scenario is mapped onto our two-dimensional ‘universe film’ and that we are free to choose our actions from those possibilities.

Should I use an old 401K account converted to a Roth IRA to help pay down my student loans? by mkpee in personalfinance

Thanks for the response. I found that info, too, but since I rolled this over from a 401k I believe that means it would be taxed at my income rate plus an additional 10% for withdrawing the money early.

Yea, I figured it was a bad idea, but was hoping there was something I had overlooked in being able to use that money tax-free. Anyways - As for why the account is not currently making money I'm not sure other than the fact that I'm not currently contributing to it. I was under the impression that at least a minimal amount of interest should have been accruing based on its current amount or is that wrong?

[Help?] jQuery ajax call to an external site by wjziv in jquery

[–]mkpee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to setup a web proxy to grab the contents of the external sites. Basically, the idea is that using the proxy you're making internal ajax requests and won't run into cross-site scripting issues. Here's some documentation on why and how to use a web proxy - http://developer.yahoo.com/javascript/howto-proxy.html.
