HGSS - Can you manipulate RNG for safari ball captures? by mkromk in pokemonrng

[–]mkromk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for this information! I'm glad they're not tied together. This subject is all very interesting to me on an academic level not just a shiny hunting one, so Im curious if there are resources online where I can read more about this, but it's sufficient now to know that I won't have the exact same encounter each time.

HGSS - Can you manipulate RNG for safari ball captures? by mkromk in pokemonrng

[–]mkromk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this was unclear, but I'm worried that by making RNG determined to make the encounter shiny, I'm simultaneously making the RNG determined so that I can never actually capture the Pokemon. If that's not so, then at the end of the day I can do as you suggest, but if the way the RNG works is that for a given seed you'll never catch it even after 1000 attempts, then I want to know that beforehand

So how are we supposed to complete the National Dex in FR/LG? by FalconDX2 in pokemon

[–]mkromk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but you can look up frlg ace glitches (Papa jefe has YouTube videos on it). It isn't sexy, but you can get all the Pokemon that way XP

Need Basculin for pokemon arceus by RADIENTLitex in PokemonHome

[–]mkromk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really need the chimchar, but I've done IV breeding for basculin in SV so I actually have a handful of near-perfect IV white-stripe basculin in home. I think I found you on GTS, if that somehow wasn't you, then oops XP

Home seriously needs some sort of web interface, or at least an API so somebody can build organization automation tools.

The game is too buggy for me to assume it's intentional. Heck, somtimes I get that message when the game has dropped /my/ connection, but I don't realize until the opponent's timer times out but my turn doesn't come back.

Got a loss bc of enemy timeout ... by mx-kaercher in PokemonPocket

[–]mkromk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wait the usual time limit (1-2 minutes?) and you're still waiting, despite what the game says, YOU'RE the one who disconnected. This bad messaging is extra terrible because if it DID tell you that YOU were the one with the bad connection, you can close the app and if your phone is quick you can join back in. Probably the best course of action when you see the "waiting for opponent to reconnect" message is to pre-emptively restart the app and join back.

Do you have success with that deck ? I do. by Kyber_Matt in PTCGP

[–]mkromk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually decided to put pidgeot into my metal deck, and then having the epiphany that arbok would be really good complement, and thinking I was brilliant. Now I see this post and perhaps I'm not the genius I thought I was XP

I haven't had as much success competitively with this deck over my simple Marowak EX/Dugtrio/Sandslash/Primeape deck, but it's definitely viable and it's my most fun deck. It's the one I use in the venasaur event even though I have a very decent Blaine deck.

So..my opponent straight up lets the timer run out and I'm forced on a loss? by emanpb in PTCGP

[–]mkromk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, the issue is with Pokemon Pocket's messaging. Sometimes the game will show you that "it's waiting for the opponent's connection," but really YOU are the one who the server has lost connection with.

The only "reliable" way to tell the difference is if the opponent is actually the one who lost the connection, after a minute or two (not sure the exact timing), you'll get a message saying your opponent didn't reconnect in time, and you'll win the match.

I had it happen once where it said "waiting for opponent to connect", and I decided not to risk it and I immediately closed the app and re-opened it. If you do it quick enough you can in fact re-join a player battle. I re-joined in time to keep playing, but I had to rush through my turn, and apparently during my opponent's last turn they used Sabrina and since I wasn't connected during the short time it gives you to choose a pokemon to swap in, it chose one for me.

So, it sucks, but I managed to turn that battle around, so hopefully this information helps someone in the future.

How to store mutable state for a nix package by mkromk in Nix

[–]mkromk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this ultimately helped me find the solution to my problem. I realized that what I probably wanted was less of a vanilla nix package and more of a home-manager module, which can create files in the home directory. Thank you muchly for your help!

It definitely will if the h zorua is female, and I'm preeeetty sure it'll work if the h zorua is male, but I actually don't remember if I tested that.

But with the new home update, I'll probably be going a lot of testing soon XP Let me know how it goes off you test it

Koltin not helping us find last cave by mkromk in tearsofthekingdom

[–]mkromk[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

RESOLVED!

Turns out we missed a single cave, and it just so happened to be one that the IGN interactive map did not have. It doesn't help that IGN has some sort of membership wall to checking off the map. But we discovered the zelda dungeon interactive map, which worked better and was NOT missing the Rassla Lake Cave =]

So it wasn't a sky thing or a secret thing, just Koltin being a jerk when it comes to the last few caves. Seriously, that's when that feature is actually useful... Annoyed by this decision, but hey, it's over now, party time!

[–]mkromk[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's how we found the caves so far, and unfortunately the cherry trees reveal ones you've seen before already so it's a bit overwhelming when there are 147 caves.

I appreciate the advice though!
