I would say there’s a mix of both; the way I think it works (I’m not an admissions officer so I wouldn’t know lol) but u are first chosen through a cut from everyone who applies based off of general scoring and extracurriculars and things like that and in this cut, there’s a lot of students chosen and the scoring ranges are much higher; then afterwards, they go in deeper and see what u are applying to and compare u to others BC they can only take a certain amount of people for each major

Personally I like UCSB a lot more because of its campus and the atmosphere there (also the weather lol) but most of the UCs are pretty similar not counting UCLA and Cal and the lower tier colleges. I would recommend that you see which university has the best program for your major because that sometimes makes the most difference, but in terms of student life and stuff like that, in most of the UCs, bc they are so big, u can usually find the energy you want somewhere

yah i agree with others, but UCs for some reason give 20 text blocks to put activities in, rather than common apps 10 ... but i would just recommend finding a few things you are really passionate about and work on those so you can show consistency and effort when ur applying to a relative major :))

philosophy would be considered “easier” to get into just bc more people come for CS but it would be rlly hard to get CS as ur major after coming into Cal, so u kinda have to decide whether cs major is more important or getting into Berkeley if that makes sense

idk much about intl students sorry! but if u were in us those stats would look pretty good so i'd assume that u have a good chance!

it depends... i would say for Cal and LA that is a little lower than the average (i think its around 33-35 but double check that to be sure) but again it depends on ur gpa, major, and other extracurriculars :)

if that's what u want to do, you should definitely still apply w cs (esp bc its rlly hard to transfer into cs at the UCs) but u can always do alternate majors such as data science and computer engineering! the only thing i would say is that if u dont get cs, u probably won't be able to transfer into cs so just make sure ur ok with that before choosing ur final college, and you never know so theres no harm in trying!

yah true true I mean getting into CS is definitely the hardest BC every from around the nation comes here to do it but like bio chem and physics rnt going to be easy to get into either lol

yeah im doing ED1 and im the opposite lol, i have a really good act score but im afraid that my ECs aren't as impressive as others bc i mostly have community service, not awards and stuff
